A tough hand and it looks to me as though it shouldn't work on good defense. One declarer got a low club lead, low from dummy, the K from East! That made the hand rather easy, after losing a round of hearts to establish the 5th heart. Another declarer got a low heart opening lead, didn't think to try the 9, which would have held. But nothing daunted, he captured East's 8 and went right back to the 9, which held! West even there didn't think it would be necessary to split his honors.
One declarer, playing from the opposite side of the table, got a spade discard from the four-card holder who, of course couldn't see declarer's spades. So we'll give him a pass. But the one I'm interested in here is the East player here who so carelessly sluffed a spade when he could see that dummy held four spades.
The club hook is "on", of course, in a manner of speaking. But you've got a club loser there on good defense and must lose a heart to establish the 5th heart. So that fourth spade fulfills the contract.
