Sneering at the Minors
The minors are orphans of sorts, in serious bridge. We look to favor a major suit contract whenever we seem to have a choice, and even when there is a good minor suit fit, we want to give primary consideration to a no trump game. We have five-card majors and the Stayman convention to seek out a major suit fit and nothing analogous in the minors. All this is well and good, and I participate along with the rest of the gang in such proclivities and conventions. Nevertheless, you don't want to dismiss the minors altogether. They can not all that rarely offer the best contract for your interests, and I would strongly advise the reader not to sneer at their potential. Keep the mind open for their potential. Below are links to some cases where this was not the mind-set of the partnership.
