Sometime later a man claiming to have been raised in the Cinq Kingdom applied to the Lake Victory military academy in Africa, wishing to join Oz. He was a man wearing a mask, going by the name Zechs Marquise. Only the then-top graduate Treize Khushrenada truly knew who the masked man was. Zechs grew to be friends with a female Italian student named Lucrezia Noin. Treize and the Oz higher-ups were literally blown away with the incrediable piloting abilities of Zechs and Noin. Infact, when the two studenyts graduated they had even shattered Treize's long standing record. However, while Zechs followed on to glory as Treize's loyal minion, Noin stayed behind at Lake Victory to work her charm motivating budding pilots. [Gee, I wonder how....:) ]
Zechs became literally the symbol of Oz, and being his subordinate was regarded as one of the greatest rewards offered to mobile suit pilots. Whether at the controls of a blindingly fast Aires or a plodding, devastating Leo, Zechs was almost a legend before he knew it. Life was looking up for him, until that faithful day in AC 195...
Zechs was on his was to get the two aging blue Aires in his group of three suits traded in for one of the new, sleek black Aires when an Alliance survilence space station reported a "falling metal object" in his area. The station crew just disregarded it as "some parts from an old satellite or something", but Zechs and his four subordinates knew exactly what they were dealing with. This "object" was part of a five-pronged assault against Earth known as Operation Meteor. Zechs' blue command carrier managed to catch up to one of the capsules, this one to take care of western Asia, Japan and the Pacific Islands. After forcing the capsule to ditch it's shell the weapon turned out to be a fighter. Zechs personally saw to it's destruction with a Leo armed witha Dobergun. However, just as he was about to parachute down to glory, the fighter proved to be not only alive, but able to reconfigure into a stylized mobile suit. Zechs' two subordinates armed their Aires and attacked the suit, only to be blasted into nothing by what appeared to be a beam cannon on the enemy suit. Dropping his Dobergun in favor of a beam saber Zechs slammed his Leo into the Gundam, damaging it's critical systems and causing it to crash into the sea. Zechs bailed out of his Leo at the last second.
After learning that the suit was made out of nearly indestructable Gundanium alloy, Zechs went on a literal man-hunt of the Gundam, pursuing it for quite some time. Finally, with a new powerful suit called Tallgeese Zechs took his revenge on the Gundam during it's assault on a convoy carring Oz's latest mobile suit, Taurus. Just as he was about to defeat the Gundam, Treize's overambitious subordinate Lady Une intervened, threatening to destroy to Space Colonies if the Gundams did not surrender. The Gundam dueling Zechs responded by self-detonating right in Zechs' face. However, Zechs was not satisfied with this. After having his old friend Noin track down the Gundam's pilot, Zechs rebuilt the Gundam and finally got his duel. Once again, Zechs was about to defeat the Gundam when the search party hunting him down discovered the dueling grounds and chased Zechs off to space.
While in space Zechs decided to go by his real name of Milliardo Peacecraft and advocate peace. Unfortuneately, the Colonies were not satisfied without arming themselves, and Zechs gave up on his advocation, going back to being the Lightning Count, only this time going against Oz. When he lost his beloved Tallgeese in a battle with Taurus dolls Zechs traded over to the nearby Wing Gundam Zero and went to battle with it for a while.
Down on Earth, things were beginning to deteorite. Before leaving Earth, Zechs had Noin send Relena to the Cinq Kingdom so she could rule as Princess as she had destined to do. unfortuneately, Oz saw the Kingdom as an obstruction, and without Treize's charismatic leadership destroyed the Kingdom. Zechs, infuriated with his home country's second mdemise headed to Earth, were he met the Gundam pilot he had hated so much in his days as an Oz soldier. Th pilot had accuired a new Gundam called Epyon and put up quite a fight. After a break, Zechs traded the Wing Zero for the Epyon, and went into seclusion.
Back in space the Colonies had broken off from Oz's control, and were forming a mobile doll army when Quinze, the wizened old leader of the Colony rebels convinced Zechs to join him in leading the "White Fang", the rebel organization. It wasn't long before all the Gundams returned to space, and along with Oz, with Treize once again in the throne, went to war with the White Fang.
The Eve Wars, as they were to be called, went in favor of Zechs and the White Fang until the Gundams' mothership Peacemillion rammed Zechs' flagship, the battleship Libra, crippling it's Earth-smashing particle cannon. Finally, with the Epyon at his control, Zechs went to finish his long over due with the Gundam pilot he hated so much. Their battle took place inside the Libra's crumbling innards. Zechs initally had the advantage until he forgot to reactivate the Zero system while he had shut down in a prervious battle. This allowed the Wing Zero's pilot to anticipate Zechs moves adn disable the Epyon. The Zero's pilot was about to self detonate once again when Zechs saw his point of view, and destroyed the Libra's power core,, preventing it from being detonated on Earth. Zechs disappeared afterwards, possibly to never be seen again.
