What about all the soap opera characters whose mothers are no longer on the show? Poor Brenda Barrett on GENERAL HOSPITAL--her parents are dead and her sister, Julia, abandoned her in favor of a career in London. So, Brenda turns to Lucy Coe for advice about men (Sonny, in particular).
"Brenda loves Lucy," confirms Vanessa Marcil (Brenda). "She's like a dream come true. Julia was always saying, 'No' but Lucy's like, 'Yeah, go ahead!' Brenda feels close to Lucy because she knows Julia. Lucy brought a history of Brenda's past with her to the friendship because of Julia. Lucy is not a stranger--she knows what this girl is up to. They can be honest with each other, though, because they're not family. You speak to your sister differently because you have a huge past together."
