Damien is Dead
Kevin is lounging on the sofa, dressed all in black and reading a sailing magazine. Lucy babbles about the potential Deception-Jax merger and ad campaign ideas. Kevin believes that all ad campaigns are alike, and Lucy asks his help to prove otherwise:
L: "Let's sit and watch the evening news, and you just tell me whatever it is that you like that jumps out at you."
K: "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa - you want to sit here and watch commercials on purpose?"
L: "Yeah. Just tell me what it is you like, you know, what you see."
K: "Nothing will jump out at me. Besides, I'm not the kind of person who buys cosmetics - at least, not anymore."
L: "Please, please, please, please."
K: "Why?"
L: "Because I love you and you love me."
K: "Oh, that again? All right, it's the big one."
(Lucy turns on the TV, and they learn about the fire and about Damian's demise. They both look shocked. Kevin takes the remote from Lucy and turns off the TV. Lucy finally speaks.)
L: "Did you just hear that? Damian's dead? Did I just imagine that or did you hear that too?"
K: "I heard that too."
L: "He was just alive the other day and now he's dead. Whoa, this is strange, because I don't feel anything. Why don't I feel anything?"
K: "You're processing the information. That takes a minute."
L: "No, I've known him a long time. I would think I'd have some sort of response, you know. You don't think I'm turning into some kind of person who's incapable of feeling, do you?"
K: "Oh, no, no. You just got through telling me how much you loved me, how excited you are about the future, remember?"
L: "Yeah, but don't you think I should feel sad about this - I mean, I have been working very hard on evolving as a human being, and so when somebody you know dies, shouldn't I be feeling bad?"
K: "Why would you? He got what he deserved."
L: "What in the world was he doing at Ward House?"
K: "Nothing good, not that it really matters now."
L: "I guess I'm never going to see him again, am I? Wow... You know, you're not going to like this and it will probably annoy you, but the fact of the matter is, there were times that - I actually
liked him... not often, but I did. You know, I can tap into some memories of actually liking him. I'm probably one of the few people who knew him very well."
K: "Oh, now, Lucy, it's time for a reality check. How did Damian
treat you?"
L: "Despicably. He was a monster."
K: "You're being kind. He humiliated you - and me. And he used whatever he knew about you to play mind games with you. And he succeeded at times, which bothers me almost as much as the fact that he was always putting his hands on you, which he did a lot."
L: "Are you okay? You look a little strange."
K: "I've never been happier. Very few people in the world that I hated as much as Damian Smith."
L: "Well, I hated him too, most of the time, but I certainly did not
wish that he would end up dead."
K: "Well, I can't share that opinion with you. As far as I'm concerned, he's exactly where he's supposed to be. And it's no coincidence to me that he died in a fire. I hope he burns in hell."
L: "You're doing it again, you know."
K: "What?"
L: "You're scaring me."
They stare at each other for a moment. Kevin looks grim and Lucy looks concerned until Kevin finally smiles a bit. Then Lucy
smiles, Kevin takes her in his arms, and as we leave them, they
are busy kissing.
