Kevin, Lucy, and Defending Her Honor
(In his office, Kevin assiduously studies a patient's chart. Lucy
opens the door, sees him at work and, tiptoeing, sneaks up behind him. Just as she nears him, Kevin turns and pulls her into his arms for a kiss or two or three. Lucy finally manages...)
L: "Oh boy, you spoiled my surprise."
K: "You want to go back and come in again?"
(Kisses)
L: "No, I like the way this turned out. Hi."
K: "Hi."
(More kisses)
L: "Mmmm, wait a minute, if this keeps up, I'm going to change my mind."
K: "About what?"
L: "Oh, going to Luke's."
(Kevin kisses her lips, then begins to rain kisses along her face.)
K: "Oh, I have a better idea. We should go back to the lighthouse, sit up on top... (He suddenly stops kissing her.) Luke's?"
L: "Didn't I mention it?"
K: "No, Lucy, this is the first I've heard about it. Why do you want to go to Luke's."
L: "Well, because it's the happening place and because it is half mine, you know, and because of Jax, of course. Jax, Jax, Jax, you know, Jax. Remember Jacks Cosmetics? The man who is going to take me and Deception, put me under their very large corporate umbrella and make me a very rich and powerful woman."
K: "Yes, yes, of course, Jax. He made you an offer, did he?"
L: "No, silly, that's the point. How could he make me an offer when I haven't even run into him or seen him? So that's why I want to go to Luke's. To see and be seen."
K: "This isn't fair, Lucy, you know, you're always putting me in a
position where I end up being the wet blanket. Now, I have no desire to go tromping all the way over to Luke's just to watch you go out of your way to attract the attention of yet another dangerous man."
L: "Who says he's a dangerous man?"
K: "Mac."
L: "Oh, pooh, you know it's probably just a testosterone thing or
something between him and Mac. That's it. And since when does Mac's opinion have to be our opinion? Oh, OK, so what? So what if Mac is just half right, it doesn't matter, it doesn't. Trust me. Because all I am trying to do is make a very important serious merger, that's it, and it would benefit me a great deal. Oh, Doc, you know, if this was something for your career advancement, I would go, no questions asked."
K: "Low blow, Lucy."
L: "Please, pretty please, with cherries on top."
K: "All right, but I've got one big, fat career advancement chip in my bank and I'm not going to forget about it."
L: "OK, and I've got one big, fat reward for you, later."
K: "Oh, want to give me a preview?"
L: "Uh-huh..."
(And she does.)
(Later, at Luke's, Luke and Lucy banter about the seating
arrangements. Kevin and Lucy finally find a table and Kevin asks...)
K: "Well, how would you feel about falling in love with me?"
L: "Wouldn't that be redundant?"
K: "Repetitive."
L: "OK..."
(They hold hands and kiss. Damian stares at Lucy from his perch at the bar. Lucy is unnerved.)
L: "He keeps staring at me."
K: "Ignore him."
L: "I can't. I'm trying. It just makes me feel really creepy."
K: "Look at me, he's not even here."
(Damien staggers from the bar and sits at Kevin and Lucy's table.)
Kevin: Excuse me, no one asked you to sit down.
Damian: Lucy, I have a proposition for you that I think you'll find interesting, if you consider it with your real nature rather than the facade you've cultivated for people that don't know you that well.
(Kevin stands.)
Kevin: I mean it, Damian. Get up and leave, now. I know you don't realize this, Damian, but in giving you any kind of grace period, I am showing excessive restraint. But if you don't leave the table, right now..."
Damian: What are you going to do, take my arm and twist it sharply?
Lucy: We're going to go.
Kevin: No, we aren't.
Damian: Oh, stay. You haven't been fed, yet, and I'm sure that you know how Lucy isn't her energetic best unless she has a good meal. Maybe she could take us both on and still be begging for more.
(Kevin pulls Damian out of the chair and punches, then starts to
strangle him. The peanut gallery (Luke, Laura, Mac and Justus) lets out a collective yawn. Mac, who had been standing, even sits.)
Justus: Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's a good old-fashioned butt-whooping going on over there.
(Kevin, however, is starting to look more than a bit Ryanesque.
Damian is starting to turn purple and gasp for air. Luke finally
decides to take notice, but barely...)
Luke: Possible homicide. Come on, let's go.
(Justus, Mac and Luke break up the brawl, but not before Kevin, swearing he's calm, gets in one last kick.)
Luke: (To Kevin) Very impressive.
Kevin: Thank you.
(Damian limps out and Lucy rushes into Kevin's arms, smothering him with kisses.)
Lucy: Oh, I love it, I love it when you defend my honor. You are the most wonderful man on this entire planet.
Kevin: You think so?
Lucy: Oh, I am absolutely right, aren't I? He's terrific, isn't
he?
Justus: Well, I did some stuff, too.
Luke: You know, I'm the one who let Damian in, in the first place.
