Remembering The Past
By: Beth Anne
Kevin was on the dock in his tux waiting to be joined with Eve in marriage. People were sitting down in the chairs and talking amoungst themselves. Kevin smiled at Victor who was waiting at the other end of the aisle for Eve. But what caught his attention was the woman talking to Victor.
The woman was Lucy. She was talking animatedly about something, probably about Christina. And when she saw that Kevin was looking at them she gave him the look that she knew he loved. The smile that set his body on fire. 'No' he told himself 'you are with Eve now. You and Lucy are just friends'.
As quickly as she looked at him she turned away and ran towards the trees near the lighthouse. She went there often when she and Kevin were together. She loved it there and now that Kevin was marrying Eve she knew she would not be able to enjoy one of her favorite spots anymore.
She sat down by her favorite tree and put her hands her lap and just sat there thinking about how everything changed. SHE was the one that Kevin loved. SHE was supposed to be the one getting ready to become Mrs. Kevin Collins. But she blew it when she lied and Kevin found her in bed with Scott.
Scott.
Looking down at her hands she looked at her wedding ring. She could feel the tears coming down her cheeks as she played with the ring and decided that she was not going to be able to go to the wedding. It hurt too much.
She then wondered ''Why did I marry Scott when Kevin is the one I want to be with?''
With a sigh she pulled the ring off of her finger and put it in her purse. She did not want to be with the man she did not love 100%.
When she put the ring in her purse her fingers found the invitation to Kevin and Eve's wedding. Pulling it out she kissed Kevin's name and wrote on it.''Be happy Doc. I love you. Lucy.''
With a sigh she set it down on the ground by the tree with a rock on it to prevent it from blowing away. Wiping her eyes she silently walked away.
Chapter 2
Kevin could tell there was something wrong with Lucy. So he told Victor that he would be right back and to tell Eve not to go anywhere. He HAD to find Lucy.
Knowing that she probably went to her favorite spot in the trees just west of the lighthouse he checked there first.
Even though she was not there physically, he could still smell the faint scent of her perfume. Smiling to himself, he KNEW that Lucy had been there...recently.
Looking for a place to sit, Kevin sat down by Lucy's tree. Just then a piece of paper under a nearby rock got his attention. Picking it up he noticed it was Lucy's invitation to the wedding. Seeing the lipstick marks on his name he smiled. But really tore at his heart was the words written below...''Be happy Doc. I love you Lucy.'' And the stains of tears that had fallen while she wrote that.
Just then he realized what he had to do. He left the trees and headed over to the firehouse to talk to Lucy. She deserved to tell him her feelings before it was too late.
Upstairs in the lighthouse, unbeknown by Kevin, Eve watched him leave and with tears in her eyes she whispered.'Good bye Kevin.'' She knew it was over.
Chapter 3
Lucy Coe was sitting on the couch in the living room of the firehouse. She was a mess. She had changed out of her dress and into a grey sweat suit and running shoes and had her hair in a pony tail.
She was crying into the phone and barely in control. ''Aunt Charlene, I thought I could watch my doc marry Eve but I couldn't. I was doing fine until Kevin looked at me in that way he does that makes my whole body go numb. So I ran.''
''Lucy girl. You know that Kevin probably understood why you took off. He knew it would be hard for you. But I bet he is proud of the effort you made by at least showing up for a little while.'' Charlene said.
''I don't think he even knows I am gone. He is just thinking about Eve right now. I am the furthest thing from his mind I am sure of that.''
Charlene, who was still at the wedding, smiled.''Lucy there is something you should know. Kevin left. He saw you talking with Victor and then when you took off he had this look of confusion on his face.''
''Really?''
''Yeah. Lucy girl I think he followed you--''
Before Lucy could answer the door bell rang and she told Charlene to have fun and she would see her later. Wiping her eyes as she went, she opened the door and there was Kevin.
