Chapter 2

SEVEN year old Danie Rose Hughes slammed the door to her bedroom. Her parents were wrong! She would not make friends in this town. True they had only been in Port Charles for a month, but she made friends where ever she went.

Her mom, Dawn Katie Hughes, worked as an interpreter for the deaf at PC High School. Her dad, Tony Alan Hughes, was a partner in one of the biggest law firms in the state of New York.

Danie was a stubborn child and she knew it too! She loved being the center of attention and when she wasn't she made sure she was! She also refused to believe that she was wrong about anything. All the previous therapists she had gone to had told Dawn and Tony that it was a phase and that Danie would grow out of it.

Danie moved to turn on her radio and when she got closer to the dresser, where her radio was she found a note from her mother...

''Danie don't forget about your appointment with Dr. Lynne Chamberlain this afternoon. I will be home at 3:00 to take you to GH. Love, Mom.''

Danie smiled. She wouldn't forget and then turned on her radio and began her homework. She thought that an idea might come to her of how to get out of it while she was doing her history project.

Charlene was glad to see that Lynne was a forgiving soul and that she had turned out alright. This only confirmed what she already knew. That giving Bethany-Lynne Coe up for adoption was the best thing for all involved. Charlene would not brag about that to Lynne or Lucy because she was not like that anymore.

''Aunt Charlene, I want to ask you about something. Why did you want mom to abort me? Didn't you know the risks she would have to take in order to do that? Not only emotionally but also physically put her life in jeopardy in order to make you happy?''

''Lynne girl, you have to understand my reasoning here. I was brought up thinkin' that when you found yourself pregnant and were not married you were to either abort the baby or give it up for adoption. I knew that Lucy wanted to keep you. She was not that well off monetarily and she was barely making ends meet as it was. I could not bear to see her strugglin' to survive and support herself. But to add a young-un to the equation, she would have been worse off than she was already.'' Charlene said.

Lynne was trying to follow that logic but it was hard. She knew her mother was poor and that she did not have all the things that she did when she was growing up.

But as Kevin had said it was not Lynne's fault that she was concieved when Lucy was too young, no, it was her father's fault.

She decided to tell Charlene what Kevin had told her.''When I talked to Kevin and mom about this, he told me that it was not my fault that she got pregnant with me. It was Danny that destroyed her life and her dreams. Do you agree with that?''

''Lynne girl, I do agree with that but Lucy has always thought that my way of thinkin' about abortion and adoption was old fashioned. Especially the abortion thing. She even quoted scripture--''

''Deuteronomy 24:16 right?''

''Yeah, but how did you--?''

''Decker told me everything.'' Lynne said thinking she knew the whole story but something on her aunt's face was telling her there was still something that was missing. Eventhough she did not want to hear it Lynne asked,''Is there something that you and Decker are not telling me?''

Charlene KNEW she should tell but she was enjoying this time with Lynne so much she did not want to spoil it. But Lynne was pushing for information and was not going to give up until she got it.

Against her better judgement, Charlene decided to tell Lynne what she wanted to hear. She just hoped Lynne would be able to handle this newest set of information.

Once Angelique regained conciousness, she begged Mac to take her to GH to see Alex. She was worried sick about him. She would not know what she would do if she lost him. She loved him so much.

''Rachelle?'' she asked.

''Yeah?''

''Would you take me to GH to see Alex? I cannot see him alone. I don't like hospitals and I might need someone to talk to. I am begging you Rachelle. I will owe you one. Please?''

''Alright. I am just going to get my purse and will be right back.'' Rachelle said.

When she was out of the room and out of sight from Angelique she smiled and thought,''You definately owe me you tramp! And if you don't pay up you will pay dearly.''

Little did Angelique know she had just made a deal with the devil herself. But when she found out it would be devastating. IF she found out that is.

Connie could not believe that Lucy was pregnant with Kevin's baby...well she COULD believe it, but what she could not believe was how Grace found out about it. ''Grace, how many times do I have to tell you that I had no idea that Lucy was pregnant. Or that Kevin is the father of the baby?'' Connie said holding her breath.

''You expect me to believe you about that after the lie that Kevin and Lucy were just friends? I know you were lying, but I wanted you to admit it to me. I have every mind to not help you get Ryan back after your betrayal.'' Grace said pushing furious and disgusted.

Connie was livid! She could understand and relate to what Grace was probably feeling and thinking. She had felt the same way when Ryan betrayed her three years ago at the Bellmore Maximum Security cemetary.

''You wouldn't! Grace come on! Let me explain why I said that they were just friends and nothing more.''

''Let's hear it.'' Grace said.

Swallowing her pride and taking a deep breath, Connie decided to tell Grace the ''truth'' or at least HER version of the truth.

''Alright. I didn't tell you that they were lovers because I knew that would make you mad. If you had gotten mad you might not have been willing to help me get Ryan back from Lynne. Admit it! If I would have told you, would you have stayed with the plan? I mean, My God, Grace, I caused Lynne to miscarry her baby. I have to carry that information with me for the rest of my life!''

Grace had to admit that Connie had a point. She would have to carry that with her. But there was one thing that Connie had forgotten. That this plan was originally her idea and not Grace's. At least that is how Grace saw things.

Kevin was still at work when Lucy got to the lighthouse. She went to the deck to get some air and looked up at the pale blue sky.

Her cheeks were wet with tears of happiness and sorrow. She rubbed her still small tummy and smiled up at the heavens. She certainly hoped that Dominique was listening. She needed her right then...

''Dominique? I hope it is not too much trouble to lay my problems and thoughts on you. But I had to tell you what has been going on. First off, I am in love with a great guy! I am two months pregnant with his baby. But the biggest thing that has happened is that I have found my little girl again. You remember the one that I thought had died at birth. It turns out that Charlene put her up for adoption with out my concent.'' Lucy said her voice beginning to break.''I wish you were here to help me with Bethany-Lynne and this new baby growing inside of me. You know my history with pregnancy. I really need this child to feel complete and to do the things I had not been able to do with Lynne or Serena. Speaking of Serena, please watch over her and make sure she is safe. And if it is not too much trouble, could you ask God to lead Scotty and Rena back to Port Charles and to their family.''

Unbeknown to her, Kevin had just gotten home and heard the last comment. It stung! Didn't Lucy love him? Wasn't she carrying his child? Why would she want the very man who less than a year and a half ago broke her heart to come back into her life?

However, Kevin was not an idiot. He would not bring up the subject unless Lucy brought it up. Just then he was brought back to the present day. He decided to ask Lucy about why Scott left with Serena and the way he did.

At the sound of Lucy coming back into the house he stood up and smiled at her.''Why don't you tell me about Scott Baldwin?''

Lucy just looked at him with a look that said,''How much did you hear out there?''

He looked back with a look that seemed to say,''Enough to be curious.''
