Wedding Day
By: EmilyBQ@aol.com
Lucy Coe sat at her desk in her hotel room. This time tomorrow evening she would be Mrs. Scott Baldwin. She released a
heavy sigh and opened the desk drawer and took out a few pieces of paper and a pen. She closed her eyes for a moment and
then with a shaking hand she brought her pen to the paper and began writing.
Dear Kevin,
By the time you read this, I’ll have married Scott. Yet he’s not the man I want to marry. Oh Doc,
what happened between us? Why couldn’t we get back to each other? Perhaps, no matter how much I
want to be with you we’re not meant to be. All of today I have been asking myself why am I marrying
Scott? Why did I say yes? Yet I have no answer for either of those questions.
I remember everything we’ve been through—from Damian Smith and that horrid bet he and I made
to loosing our baby. One thing I can not get out of my mind is when you and Mac pretended to be
Norma and Eve. However those day’s are gone. I’m with Scott and you’re with Eve.
Maybe good things never last, but maybe someday I’ll be able to look at you, and see you with Eve
and not feel like my heart is being stepped on. Maybe one day I’ll be able to look at you and not think
of the man that dressed up as a woman for me or the man I dressed up as a nun to hide from you in
France.
I love you,
Lucy
Lucy put the pen down and wiped her tear filled eyes. She folded the paper and put it in an envelope and wrote ‘Dr. Kevin
Collins—written yet never sent’
It was early, just past dawn and Kevin has snuck down from bed. He needed to think and he couldn’t do that with Eve
around. He stepped outside onto the deck and heard the ducks down at the pond starting to rise and find breakfast. His heart
sank slowly at memories of Sigmund running around the house.
Today was a day, Kevin had been thinking would never come. It was the day that Lucy and Scott would be married. Lucy
married to Scott! It just seemed absurd. Yet why was this effecting him so much? Wasn’t he madly in love with Eve? Hadn’t
he almost choked his step-brother Frank to death when he was blackmailing Eve?
As the sun rose, and the sky was a lovely orange, Kevin searched his heart for the answers. He knew what he had to do this
afternoon during the ceremony. He had to allow Lucy to be happy—even if it was with Scott.
Now mid-morning, Lucy is in the hotel room gathering her things to take to the church. There’s a knock at the door and she
goes to open it. There she finds Felicia and Laura. "I’m so glad you to are here." She said.
"Lucy, your nervous aren’t you?" Felicia asked.
"Yeah I am." Lucy said.
"Any visions this time?" Laura asked as they stepped into the room.
"So far none. Knock on wood." Lucy said as she knocked on the desk and the letter fell to the ground un-noticed.
"Well let’s get your things and get you to the church so you and Scotty can get married." Laura said.
"Wonderful." Lucy said as she grabbed the garment bag with the dress and veil.
Laura grabbed the shoe box, and the make up case as she and Lucy left the room. Felicia looked around to make sure nothing
was left behind. Then something caught her eye. She walked over to the desk and bent down and picked up the envelope,
"Dr. Kevin Collins—written but never sent" Felicia read aloud.
She held the envelope in her hand tightly and sighed as she knew what she had to do.
"Come on Eve! We’re going to be late!" Kevin yelled upstairs as there was a knock at the door.
Kevin went and answered the door to find Felicia, "What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be helping Lucy get ready?"
"Yeah I should but there’s something that you might want to see. After Lucy left her hotel room I saw this and figured she
wrote it for a reason and she’s afraid to send it." Felicia said as she handed Kevin the envelope.
He studied it for a moment and then said, "Thank you Felicia."
"I’ll see you at the church." She said and then showed herself out.
Kevin, with the envelope in hand went out to the deck and opened it. As he read the letter his eyes were filled with tears. He
blinked them away and then put the letter back in the envelope and put it in his jacket pocket. He went back inside and Eve
had finally come down stairs.
"Are you crying?" She asked.
"Just allergies." He replied.
"Oh, well are you ready?" She asked.
"Yeah, very ready."
Kevin and Eve walked into the people filled church. Kevin saw Mac and walked over to him, "Hello, ya know I’ve been
thinking and maybe it’s time for Norma and Eve to show up again."
Mac turns to look at his friend and say’s, "I am NOT shaving my legs again mate."
"Yes that wasn’t pleasant." Kevin said.
"Okay Kevin, why do you want to dress up as a woman again?"
"I was just thinking of all the fun we used to have."
"Kevin, what’s going on in that mind of yours?"
"You’ll see, you’ll see. Oh and when you see Felicia tell her thanks for dropping off that letter." Kevin starts to walk away but
Mac pulls him back.
"What letter?" He asks.
"This one." Kevin say’s as he pulls it out from his jacket pocket.
Mac grabs it and opens it. His eyes widen in shock, "You’re kidding me right?"
"Nope. This wedding isn’t going to happen today."
"Kevin don’t do anything stupid." Mac told him as he handed Kevin the letter back.
"I won’t. I’ll be doing what’s right. I have to go find someone." Kevin said as he walked away.
Lucy was alone in the dressing room when there was a knock on the door. It opened slightly and Kevin came in just as Lucy
was turning around. "Kevin…."
"Lucy, we need to talk." He told her as he walked over to her.
"About what?" she asked, only in her heart knowing.
"This." He said as pulled the letter out.
"How did you get it?" She asked as she tried to grab it.
"Felicia found it and thought whatever was written in here you were too afraid to have me know."
"Did you read it?"
"Yes I did, Lucy I love you!" He said as he walked towards her, "You had no reason to be afraid to give this to me—to tell
me."
"Really?" she asked as tears were forming in her eyes.
"Yes really." He took her hands in his and said, "Lucy don’t marry Scott! Come with me, we can be together."
She looked down at his hands and took a deep breath, "Give me five minutes to get changed and write a note." She told him
and then made a mad dash to get dressed.
Afterwards she took a piece of paper and a pen and wrote Scott a note, "Hey Pal, listen things just aren’t meant to be. We’ll
talk soon, Lucy." She then left the pen and note on the vanity table and grabbed Kevin’s hand as they left the church through
the back way.
About a half hour later Laura and Scott went into the dressing room looking for Lucy. "She was hear half an hour ago. All
ready to marry you." Laura told Scott.
"Well where is she now?" Scott asked as he ran his hand over his short hair and looked around. Then Laura’s eyes caught
sight of the note.
"Perhaps this will explain." She said as she picked it up and handed it to him.
He read it and then crumpled it up, "Where the hell is Kevin?!"
"I was just about to ask you that." Eve said as she walked in. "He’s missing."
"Kevin’s missing and Lucy’s missing, who thinks they ran off together?" Laura said.
"What the hell!? He’s with that thing over there!" Scott yelled as he gestured towards Eve.
"I’m right here!" She yelled back.
"Yeah I know, that’s why I said it." He retorted back.
Eve walked over to Scott and smacked him with her purse. "Go to Hell Scott."
"Been there—when I was dating you!"
"Oh so that was worse then when we were together." Laura said.
"Much worse!"
"Yeah like it was a picnic being with you either! Apples EVERYWHERE!" She yelled and started hitting him again.
Scott grabbed her wrists and pulled her slightly closer. For a moment it wasn’t sure if he would toss her backwards—or kiss
her.
"I dare you to." Eve said as her heart was pounding as she looked into his eyes. "Go on Scott, I double dare you."
Scott pulled Eve towards him and kissed her with a hunger he hadn’t known in months. He released her wrists as she wrapped
her arms around him and held him close to her. Finally Eve pulled away—but only for a second before her lips were pressed
against his again.
Kevin placed the ring on Lucy’s finger and then looked at the judge. He nodded and said, "I now pronounce you husband and
wife. You may kiss the bride."
Lucy smiled at Kevin and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.
"We actually did it, Mrs. Collins." Kevin said proudly.
"I never thought it would happen."
"Well it has and nothing will keep us apart." With that Kevin’s cell phone started to ring. "Hello? Victor, guess what….no,
Lucy and I got married." Kevin holds the phone away from his ear as Victor let’s out a loud, ‘Yippy!’
Lucy grabs the phone and say’s, "Victor, take a deep breathe and you might as well spread the wonderful news. We’ll see you
in a few days’. Ta!"
