Chapter 13
~~Reunions~~
Decker could not believe that Lynne was taking this news so calmly. He marveled at her strength of character. He was not really suprised however, because after all she was of the Coe-Simpson family and they were known for that back in Jennings.
''Lynne, I have to say it. You are taking things rather well. You have your mother's strength. If it wasn't for that emotional and mental strength that your mother possesses you might not be here right now.''
Lynne was blindsided by this. Did her Great Aunt really hate her that much? Or was the accusation that Lynne threw at her true...that it was indead Charlene that was not ready for her youngest niece to be a mother?
''How did she respond when your mom told or suggested aborting me?'' Lynne was really curious now.
''She quoted a verse from the Bible and that convinced her not to go through with it. She knew you were a living human being with a heart beat, but my mom did not see it that way.''
''What verse?''
''Deuteronomy 24:16..'FATHERS SHALL NOT BE PUT TO DEATH FOR THEIR CHILDREN, NOR CHILDREN PUT TO DEATH FOR THEIR FATHER'S, EACH IS TO DIE FOR HIS OWN SIN.' That is how she got through to my mom.''
''I am so glad she did, Decker. You will never know how glad I am that she did!''
Just then her pager went off and she said goodbye to Decker and headed off to GH.
~~Not who she seems~~
Tamera was amazed that she had been able to fool Ryan into thinking she was someone else. When they were together last, at the sanitarium, when she helped him escape all those years ago, he told her that he would never forget her. Then he choked her and when he was convinced that she was dead, buried her in the coffin that was meant for him.
Tamera was holding the scarf that Ryan had made for her. She loved that man so much and the funny thing was that Lucy Coe was going to lead Connie right to him, without even knowing it. 'So much for loyalty to your daughter, eh, Ms. Coe?' She laughed this was going to be easier than she thought it would be.
She then dialed a number on her cell phone and said,''Grace everything is working out better than we both planned! Soon Ryan will be mine and then I will work on getting Kevin back to you!''
~~Gotta have love~~
While Alex was answering a page outside the interegation room, Angelique was planning her next move. She wanted to tell Alex that she was falling for him. However she wanted him to tell her that he was falling for her first!
''How do I make him admit it to me is the hard part though.'' Angelique said outloud thinking she was alone in the room.
''Make who admit what?'' Alex asked.
Angelique had to think fast!
''Make Damian admit what he is doing to Kimberly. Why what would I be thinking about other than that right
now?''
Alex grinned. ''Oh maybe that you have a crush on me?''
Angelique turned away, embarrassed. Alex chuckled. Not being able to help herself she asked without turning around,
''What gave me away?''
''Your daydreaming for one. AND your insistance on working with me on this case. It was kinda obvious. I was flattered Angelique.'' Alex said.
''But?'' Angelique asked afraid of what she would hear.
''No buts! I kinda have a thing for you too. but I am, at least I think, too old for you.''
''I am 28 years old. And you cannot be a day over 30.'' Angelique said smiling.
''Okay. I am 34. I guess that is not much of an age difference. Want to go out sometime?''
''Sure.'' Angelique said.
~~Reunions~~
When Lynne got to her office she was so preoccupied with getting something from her desk that she did not see Ryan sitting on the couch waiting for her.
''Hello Ly.'' Ryan said.
Startled, Lynne spun around and was shocked to see Ryan there.
''Hi Ryan. Can I help you with something? If not I was just paged and--''
''I know I was the one who paged you. I want to talk to you about us.''
''What about us?'' Lynne said, her mood softening to Ryan's charm.
''I wanted to see if you wanted to start over and give me another chance.''
''Oh! I think that can be arranged but what about my mom. She hates you.'' Lynne giggled.''You did cheat on me you know.''
''I am profoundly sorry about that Ly. If I could take it back and our daughter back I would. You mean more to me than anything in the world.''
Before Lynne could say anything to Ryan in return, Lucy walks by with Kevin on their way to her doctor appointment and his office to see a patient. The door to Ly's office was open. Lucy walked in and hugged her daughter and then turned and saw Ryan..her face and eyes got this icey look to them.
~~Not who she seems~~
''Are you sure that everything is going according to plan?'' Grace asked, 'I thought that Kevin was with Lucy Coe.''
'Shoot! I forgot about Lucy!' Connie thought, then said out loud.''Yeah they are together but they have not done anything. They are platonic friends and nothing more. I have been watching them closely.''
Now Connie knew that she was lying to Grace about this, but what Grace didn't know would not hurt her..at least right now anyway.
''I thought so. I knew that Kevin never really got over me. That piece of information is only confirmation to what I already believed.'' Grace smiled.
As she said this Grace stroked the framed picture of a young Kevin Collins, who could not be more than 23 years old. 'Soon my love. Soon we will be together and this time it will be forever.!'
Connie wanted to tell Kevin that Grace was still alive. But if Grace found about her double-crossing her, Connie knew she was as good as dead.
~~Reunions~~
''I'm imagining this, right? I mean, you wouldn't even show your face anywhere near Lynne, right? After everything you've done-''
''Mom, wait-'' Ly tried to tell Lucy what was going on, but Lucy didn't want to know.
''No, you wait.'' She pointed at Ryan. ''And you get the hell out.''
''Lucy, can I just-''
Ryan had a feeling that if he didn't 'make nice' with Lucy, his life was going to be hell.
''No! You can't. I don't want to hear it. You think you can just walk in, say I'm sorry, and everything you've done will be okay? You lied, you cheated-''
''I know what I did! So does Ly, so does everyone! I'm sorry! But I need to talk to Ly.''
Ryan looked so beaten that Kevin started to say something. The glare he received from Lucy made him think better of it.
''Well, if you know what you did, you should know better than try to sleaze you way back into my daughter's life. You are the last thing she needs!''
''But maybe I'm what she wants!''
Ryan hadn't meant to yell it, but it was the only way to be heard over Lucy's tirade.
''I know she's you daughter, but it's not your life! It's hers!''
Once again, he looked to Kevin for help and got only a helpless shrug.
''It's her life, and I'm not going to let you ruin it again! Why is it that men always think they can waltz back into the shambles they make of a woman's life and finish the job? No way. Lynne, please tell me you're smarter than that?''
Ly was almost crying. ''Mom, haven't you ever given someone a second chance?''
Lucy nodded. ''Of course I have. I'm a very forgiving person. As a matter of fact, I've given them second, third, and forth chances. And guess what?''
With each word, she stepped closer to Ly. ''I've ended up regretting it every single time.'' She shrugged.
''Basically, all it does is give them another chance to step on you again.''
Ryan had to try again. ''Lucy, hasn't anyone ever given you a second chance? I mean, I have heard about you….''
''Ryan, quit while you're ahead.'' Kevin quickly decided it was time to save Ryan from himself. ''It's up to Lynne what she wants. Maybe one of you should ask her what she wants.''
Knowing what the phrase 'eternally grateful' meant, Lynne looked from Kevin to Lucy and Ryan.
''It is my life. Mom, I know you're worried about me. I know you don't trust Ryan. I also know you just don't trust anyone. I can only imagine what Kevin went through to get you to trust him. But you also know what's it like to love someone.''
''Yes, I do. And what it's like to be hurt by someone you love. Repeatedly, if you let them. You don't deserve that. And he made promises before. Love, honor, cherish, faithful? Any of those words ring any bells in this room? What makes it different this time?''
As she was speaking, she was waving her arms like she always did when she was furious. Lynne's mother, Kevin's lover, or not, Ryan had enough of Lucy's tirade.
''Of course those words ring bells for me. They should for you, too, Lucy, haven't you said wedding vows twice? If no one's supposed to believe it's different for me this time, why are we supposed to believe it's different for you this time, with my brother?''
Kevin and Lynne both took a step back, knowing that being in the middle of this could be dangerous. Lucy shocked everyone in the room. She said nothing.
Instead, she looked into Kevin's eyes for a moment before staring at Ryan. When she finally spoke again, her voice was quiet, and Ryan knew, serious.
''I guess I should have expected you to fight dirty.''
''Where Lynne in concerned, I'll fight any way I have to. But Lucy, I don't want to fight with you. Our lives are very connected. Even if you get your way, and Lynne won't forgive me, you're still with my brother. That means we have to deal with each other.''
Responding to Lucy's tone, Ryan spoke softly, not breaking eye contact with her while he spoke.
''I'm telling you, Ryan, I won't let you get away with hurting my daughter again. You'd better be damn sure what you're doing. I don't trust you, and it will be a while, if ever, before I trust you again.''
''I understand that. I haven't exactly earned anyone's trust in this.''
Looking from Lynne to Ryan, Lucy finally sighed.
''My son-in-law is my brother-in-law. Isn't that the title of a bad Springer show?'' Smiling, Lynne threw her arms around Lucy's neck.
While they were speaking, Ryan leaned over to Kevin.
''You could have helped me out, there.''
Kevin shot him his best 'are you kidding?' look.
''The secret to being with Lucy is choosing your battles. I do that very carefully. And I WILL NOT use up a possible victory of my own to save your sorry ass.''
Then he smiled. ''Not to mention the fact that it would have drawn her anger from you to me. You're my brother, and I will help you any way I can. But I draw the line at human sacrifice.'' He turned from Ryan to Lucy. ''Can we go? We're both going to be late.''
Chapter 30
Angelique is still blown away. She had no idea that Alex Garcia had a crush on her as well. She pictured him as the person she would yearn for the rest of her life and never actually get. She was glad that fate --or God-- or both brought Alex around, and that she would have a man to call her own.
She was not entirely surprised, however, that Garcia realized her feelings for him. When she was a young girl she was always told that she showed her emotions and what she was thinking in her eyes. She never really believed it until today.
Garcia was the sweetest guy she had ever met. He had this aire about him that made Angelique feel as though she had known him for years, instead of months.
''Angelique what are we going to do about the Damian thing? We still have to apprehend him you know.'' Alex said.' Besides I like the way you look when you are deep in thought.''
Angelique's heart soared! She was falling hard.
''Well alright. I would not want to let you down Alex. But what about when I am not deep in thought? Don'tcha like me then?'' She could not resist teasing him.
''Yeah I do, but you get these silver flecks in your eyes when you are thinking hard about something. That is one of the qualities I love about you.'' Alex said grinning and having a great time.
Just then her hand moved and bumped his. They looked at each other and she turned red. They looked each other in the eye and knew at that moment everything was perfect. They then leaned in and as Alex's lips claimed hers as his own, she let out a small moan and at that moment their feelings were made clear.
Hesitantly he opened her mouth and was delighted when she allowed him to explore. It was the best feeling in the world so far for these two friends, just starting out on their journey towards becoming lovers. And they both had to admit that they were ready for the journey and adventure that awaited them.
Breaking the spell that was over them at that moment, the phone rang. Garcia answered and to his disappointment he had to go on a emergency call. But he resumed kissing Angelique. But Angelique was hesitant.
''Don't they need you right now Alex?''
''You are a very smart and sexy young lady, Angel. Yeah that was for me. But I want to stay here and make out with you instead.'' Alex said. ''I really wish I could.''
''Me too. But you have to go. If Mac finds out that you were here with me and NOT where you were needed, helping others in need, you will probably loose your job.'' Angelique said honestly. 'Do you REALLY want to risk it? I may be many things and may want many things but I do not want to be the cause of you loosing your job.''
''You are the most selfless woman I have ever met, Angel. I will be back soon. Why don't you meet me at the Grille and we can continue this discussion then.''
''Okay. Around seven-ish?''
''Sounds good. I love you, Angelique.''
''I love you too Alex.''
Ly looked at Lucy, then at Kevin, then at her ex-husband. After that discussion Ly no longer knew what she wanted. Finally, crying she told everyone what she thought right then.
''Everyone get out of my office! I don't hate any of you, but I am angry. You all have overstayed your welcome. Now if you don't mind!''
''I have a doctor's appointment anyway. See you at home Lynne. As for you, Ryan, I hope that we don't cross paths for a long time. If she takes you back, I won't like it but I will live with it. Understand?'' Lucy said.
Ryan saluted and said. 'Yes ma'am.'' But then he added just to spite Lucy who was already more than ready to kill him. 'It is not IF she takes me back, it's WHEN she takes me back.''
Lynne could not contain herself anymore. She had to tell Ryan she was concidering stopping the reunion all together.
''Ryan! I am not sure I want to get back together. You violated my trust and you could not even be honest and tell me that you were cheating. My God, I found out from my sister! I should have heard it from you and only you. Even though, I love you to pieces and I want to reconcile I am not sure that this is the right time. I mean considering I don't know what I want right now.''
With that said they all left her office. After Lucy went to her doctor's appointment and was out of sight, Lynne headed towards Kevin's office down the hall from her own.
She was grateful to have an unbiased person listen to her and give her unbiased advice regarding herself, how to deal with Janelle's death, Ryan's cheating, and finding out Lucy was her mother.
Jokingly she thought to herself, 'He will make his money's worth with my problems.' She could joke about it because she knew that Kevin was giving her these sessions for free, not only because she was a hospital employee but also because, to him she was still family.
She walked in and smiled wearily at Kevin. He always made her feel better.
''Lynne, are you alright? You look exhausted.'' Kevin said concerned.
''I am tired I have not slept very much since this entire thing began. I mean knowing that Lucy is my mother has helped me rest a little easier but there is still something gnawing at me and I don't know for the life of me what it is!'' Lynne said, defeatedly sitting down on the couch in a reclining position.
''Where do you want to start? When you found out about Janelle or the cheating?''
''I would like to talk about my very short pregnancy first.'' Ly said. 'When I found out that I was indeed pregnant many thoughts went through my mind, like,
'How would Ryan react if he knew?' or 'Do I tell him that I am pregnant with a child he does not even want.' I knew I could not handle Ryan AND the pregnancy on my own so--''
''You called your sisters to come and support you right?'' Kevin asked grinning.
''Yeah. I thought that they would be able to handle Ryan while I handled my job and my unborn baby. But of course it did not work that way.'' Ly said on the verge of tears, 'I know it has been over two months and I am still numb and sad. Almost as much as I was when it happened. Is that normal?''
''I once told someone that there is not a cut off period for grief and that the mourning process takes longer for some than others.'' Kevin said sitting down next to Lynne and holding her.
''I dream about Janelle all the time. At first it was comforting and reassuring that she was in a safe place now. away from her father and away from his lies.'' Lynne began.
''But?''
''But it was also a reminder that she was no longer inside me. She was in a box, deep in the ground and no longer alive. I used to wake up crying after those dreams. That is why I took off of work for so long because the grief was too much for me to handle.''
''But remember that you were happy up until then and she was conceived in love.'' Kevin said then silently added, 'I lost a child too.''
''Are you serious?'' Lucy asked, still not believing what Dr. Neumann had just told her. 'Are you absolutely positive that I am pregnant?''
''100% sure! Lucy the tests usually don't lie, plus you have all the symptoms. You have had morning sickness most everyday. and you have lost weight which a lot of pregnant women do.'' Dr. Neumann said. 'You are most definitely pregnant.''
For once in her life Lucy was speechless. She could not believe that her dream was coming true. She was going to have a baby she could call her own.
