Chinese Proverbs

Pure is he who does not seek power and wealth.
Purer Is he who is associated with power and wealth but uncorrupted.
High is he who does not know how to play tricks .
Higher is he who understands tricks but refuses to use them.

Move the deceitful with sincerity;
the ruthless with gentleness;
and the wicked and crooked with pride and a sense of honor.

When a family lives in harmony,
it will be blessed with good luck and prosperity.
When a household is filled with discord, it will be visited upon by
misfortune and decline.

When examining a person's mistake, do not only see what wrong he did,
but think about his initial intention.
When following a person's good example, look only at what good he did,
but do not question his motivation.

To be poor is not shameful; it is to be poor and to have no high aspirations that is shameful.
To hold a lowly position is not dreadful; it is to hold a lowly position
and not to improve your ability that is dreadful.
Getting old is not lamentable; it is getting old and having wasted your life that is lamentable.
To die is not a sad thing; it is to die without anyone knowing you that is really sad.

In conducting yourself in society, combine firmness with tact;
in dealing with people, combine kindness with principle.
Forget the favours you did for others, but forget not your faults.
Remember the favours you received, but remember not the injuries others did to you.

To extend the breadth without building up the thickness is bound to lead to destruction.
To increase the height without expanding the foundation will certainly end up in collapse.
