Chinese Proverbs II

Fortune cannot be had by willing it. But being happy breeds fortune.

Misfortune cannot be avoided. But eliminating evil thoughts keeps disasters away - Confucius

It is easier to be known by the outside world than to really know yourself inside;
it is easier to make others believe you have a clear conscience than to convince yourself
you have never done a thing in your life to be ashamed of.

He who respects others will not be insulted; he who is tolerant will win popular support;
he who acts in good faith will be trusted by others; he who is diligent will succeed in
his undertakings; he who is generous will make others work hard for him.

Someone said: "Repay an injury with kindness."

The master said: "If you reward injury with kindness, with what, then, will you reward kindness ?

You should repay an injury with justice and kindness with kindness." - Confucius

Be tolerant, but do not let others take your tolerance for granted; be astute, but make allowance for others.
Give away what surplus things you have so as to build up your goodwill; do not exhaust the good will
of others so as to maintain good relationships.

Gradually increase what you give to people, and they will always be grateful.
But if you gradually reduce what you give to them, they tend to forget your favour.
Gradually relax discipline and restriction placed on them, and they will feel more and more
comfortable and satisfied. But if you gradually strengthen discipline and restriction on them,
they will be resentful.

Make friends with those who are faithful and sincere.
Have no friends who are not your equals.
When you have faults; do not fear to correct them. - Confucius
