Mommy was born on April 29, 1921, in Monroe, Washington, USA. She lived mostly in Monroe and later Sedro-Woolley as a little girl, and subsequently in Seattle through college (her mother for many years ran a rooming house for UW students at 4711 18th NE). Her mother, my "Granny", has a page here, too.
She graduated from Seattle's Roosevelt High School in the class of 1939, I think, and went to the University of Washington, graduating in (I believe) sociology and then earning the degree of Master of Social Work, as well as meeting Daddy.
She worked as a social worker, I believe, both in Massachusetts and in Washington, but from the time I was born (1954) she was what she wittily called a "lady of leisure", in the sense of "housewife". She was active in FIUTS (the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students) and was one of the founders and main movers behind the English Conversation Classes for the Wives of Foreign Students at the University of Washington.
She put on huge and hugely successful Back to School Parties for the whole neighborhood. She also designed and sold (to FisherPrice) several children's toys.
