I have a hard time talking to real people about how I have been used by the Lord over the past 2 years. I sometimes wonder how I look towards Christians in my life that don’t know about the online community I started. Then I remember it doesn’t matter at all to me, but I know that the Lord can see my heart and watches over me. In Feb 2002 I started an online community called Teens Growing in the Lord(TGITL) . I started it with 2 other people that I had chatted with online. They slowly were just not part of it anymore, and It was just me. I started building up the web pages, and worked towards getting it completed. Let me go back to how I started chatting online. One day I was bored wasn’t doing anything, so I went and looked at the Msn chat rooms. I came across one that was called Bible Trivia, and if you know anything about me, I really do love the bible. So I thought this was awesome, that people would get together and play bible trivia. I went in and didn’t leave until I moved on to TGITL. I met John (who was the co-owner with me and still is) in a chat room when I was trying to figure out how to use a chat program. We didn’t talk for a good few months and John came across TGITL and wrote me a note on the message board and wanted to help the community. We realized that John was the same person who helped me a few months back with getting the chat program to work. So John joined just me at the time in trying to get this community done. It was May 2001, when I got my own computer and my own internet connection. At this time I didn’t start working on the community as much as I wish I had. The bible trivia room that I was largely addicted to, I think in a good way *smile*. Offered for me to help out more there now, I had one month of high school left and had no plans for the coming year. So for the summer I played bible trivia and helped out around the community. This ended a few weeks before summer ended. My mom was telling me I needed to get a job, and my rent was getting behind. I left Bible Trivia, and went on to working on TGITL. John and I went full force with it. I got a job finally, so for the next year of my life until I started up school this passed September. I worked on making Teens Growing in the Lord a better place for kids to come to online. Over this time I learned more about myself. I learned that I don’t want to spend my life in front of the computer, but most of all that God can use me anywhere, and I really don’t know where that’s going to be. I never expected for God to lead me to starting this place, which now has over 1200 members, it’s the largest Christian Teen Community on Msn. No I’m not bragging! Online evangelism is much different, talking to people not in person, but through a computer is much different. It sometimes can be really frustrating. I have personally lead 2 people to Christ, the count hasn't stopped there, and I know that almost every person who has come and stayed and chatting with us has been touched by the TGITL Ministry. Even though I am no longer helping out with TGITL. I still pray for it all the time. Please ask me questions about this if you are someone I know in person who is reading this. I would love to talk to you about it! You can learn even more about this when you read my friends page, as I have included pages for some of my online friends. |
