Ordinary Girl

Two mermaids who were madly in love with each other swam threw the ocean waters. Holding hands and looking at all of the beautiful fish that past them. The two then sat on a rock that was on the ocean floor. The guy looked at the girl and felt her cheek with his hand. She girl smiled. " sakku ku la.."  The boy smiled back and replied. "Sakka ka la ku..."  The boy then brought something from behind his back. It was a necklace made out of sea shells and pebbles. It looked so beautiful! The guy then put the necklace on the girl. The girl smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder, and the boy placed his arm around her. They then looked  into each others eyes. They leaned in closer and closer  until their lips met in a kiss filled with  full passion. Nothing was ever going to separate them. Or  so they thought....

Few days later...

It was very dark. The girl could tell their was a huge storm going on at the surface. She swam  faster and faster searching for her true love. She couldn't find him anywhere! Mermaids were swimming all over the place in a huge hurry. The girl had no idea what was going on! Finally she found her one and only love trapped in a net. A fisher man had caught him! Fast as she could she swam up to the net trying to get him out of there. But the boy yelled at her.  "Sakui wa! Sakui wa!" The girl just ignored him as she tried to free him from the net. The boy continued yelling at her to get away but she just continued to ignore him. Then the net her love was in started to rise. She  fisher man was pulling him up! She had to hurry! "Rikku, Sakui wa!" The boy yelled. The girl started to cry. "Jenn Sakka ka la!" She cried. Just when you think things get get any worse a small green ball drops into the water. The  looks at it. She had no idea what it was. "SAKUI WA!!" The boy yelled. The girl did as she was told and swam away from it. It then exploded. More and more  started to drop down.  It was going to destroy their village! The girl screamed in horror as one of the  green balls blew up half of the village. Then a glowing ball landed in front of the girl. Thinking it was like the green balls the girl backed up scared out of her wits. "Camo ku ki! Camo ku ki!" She yelled covering her face. "Rikku..." It whispered. The girl then un covered her face and looked and saw her mother. "Mai!" She yelled. "Jenn....que....que....." The mother hushed her and told her this glowing ball could save her from all this. The mother didn't want her daughter to die like this. The bombs were getting bigger and nothing could stop them. Then men in gear came from the surface catching mermaids with nets. The mother had to hurry. "Rikku! Ka ku! Ka ku!" The girl swallowed hard and touched the glowing  ball. "Jenn Sakka ka la..." Were her last words before everything went black.

END OF  FLASH BACK

Rika Nonaka woke up in bed breathing hard. She has been having weird dreams for the last couple of nights. She tried to ignore them but she has started to have them more often lately. Rika then glanced at her clock. It was 7:30 AM. She had to get ready for school or she would be late.

Rika stopped in front of her locker and and un did the lock. She then got the books she needed for her  first  block and shut her locker and locked it again.  She then felt someone cover her eyes. "Guess who." Said the voice.

"Matt ishida?"

"Ha ha!"

Rika then got a look at the boy that was behind her. "Takato! Hi."

"Hi honey."  Takato replied kissing her. Takato was Rika's boyfriend they had been going out for two months. Takato could be sweet at times but other times he would get drunk and get really mad.  Rika tried to tell Takato to get help for his drinking problem, but he wouldn't listen to her. He just kept drinking and drinking. Sometimes Rika didn't know why she was dating him. When he gets drunk he's a different person! He hits Rika and beats her when he  gets drunk.  All of Rika's  friends tell her to leave Takato but Rika wont listen to any of them.

"So how are ya this morning baby?" Takato asked slyly.

"F-Fine.." Rika replied. Believe it or not she was kinda scared of Takato.

Takato then noticed her black eye.

"Rika...." He whispered taking her face into his hands to take a better look at her eye. "What happened?"

"You got drunk again last night..." Rika replied softly.

Takato covered his mouth in horror. Did he really do this to her? Is it really true he beats his own girlfriend when he gets drunk?? Nah..it just couldn't be.

"You mean i....i....." Takato shuttered to say the word.

Rika nodded. "Yes..."

"Rika i'm....--"

"Its ok Takato." Rika said. "Now if you excuse me i have to get to class." And with that Rika walked off.

"Rika!" Takato yelled. "Get back here!"

After school

"Rika!" Takato yelled trying to catch up to his girlfriend. "Stop!"

Rika then spun around. "Yes?"

"Rika we have to talk."

"I cant.....i havc swimming." Rika started to walk off but Takato grabbed her arm. "First we talk."

"Takato let go...i already missed  2 classes of swimming."

"I don't care! Were going to talk this out now!"

"NO! After swimming!" Rika pulled from Takato's gasp and ran.

"RIKA!"

"How did i do?" Rika asked getting out of the pool.

"Very good Nonaka a new record!"

"Really?! Lets see!" Rika said taking the timer. It read "20 seconds."

"Wow!" Rika was surprised. "I really did this?"

The teacher nodded. "Yeah, i'm very proud of you."

"Thanks."

Rika then noticed something on her arm.

She gasped. It looked like a  rash of some sort. It kinda looked like a fish  scale.

"What the..."

"Something wrong Nonaka?" The teacher asked.

"No, no, no..." Rika shook her head. "Nothing."

Rika then looked back at her arm. It was gone...

A boy swam through the ocean in search of his true love. He was now 16 years  old, and you might even say he was the  hunk of the sea.  He came up to the surface and looked on the land. It was so beautiful. All the tall buildings and birds singing...he loved it. But not as much as his first love.

"Rikku...." He whispered.

*FLASH BACK*

"RIKKU!!!" He screamed. There was a huge white light. When he opended his eyes again she was gone! "Rikku..." He whispered. He then reached out through the net and grabbed a sharp piece of glass that fell from the surface. He then cut himself loose and swam away. He turned around and watched as all his family and friends were killed. When he turned around he saw Rikku's mother.

"Swa ku! Rikku qu....qu..."

She smiled and said she sent Rikku to be reborn on land. But she could only send one. She then said she could have the boy to be reborn but in the ocean. The boy began to cry. "Que...mi......Mai!" Rikku's mother put a finger on his lips and told him he would see Rikku again some day. Rikku's mother then put a necklace around his neck and said it was from Rikku.

"Rikku...." He whispered. He missed her so....

She smiled and told  him when he was reborn this necklace would still be with him.

Jenn smiled and thanked her.

*END OF FLASH BACK*

Jenn wondered if he would ever see her again. He missed her so much. Her sweet smile, her laugh, the touch of her soft skin.

"Rikku  sakku ku la...." He said as a tear fell down his cheek.

Ring, Ring

Rika groaned and answered it. "Yeah what?!"

"Rika!" It was Takato.

"Sorry...what is it?"

"Are you still up for our date tonight?"

"Sure..why time you gonna pick me up?"

"8:30."

Rika glanced up at her clock. It was 7:52.

"Ok."

"Great! Cya then."

"Yeah bye.." Rika hung up and sighed. 'Why do i bother dating him?...'

Rika's room
8:25

Rika was brushing her hair when she noticed the rash on her arm again.

"What the hell?" She yelled.

Just then her mother walked in. "What's wrong honey?"

Rika then showed her mom the rash. "Look!"

Her mother gasped. "Oh my!"

"Mom what's wrong with me?" Rika asked a little scared.

"I'm sure its nothing...if it doesn't go away by next week  we'll go see a doctor."

"Ok mom..."

After dinner Rika and Takato went to the beach and sat on the sand. Takato wanted to make out but Rika wasn't in the mood. He pushed her down on the sand and got on top of her. "Come on Ri...lets have some fun."

"T-Takato!" She whispered. "No! Were not ready."

Takato ignored her as he lead a trail of kisses up and down her neck.

"Takato stop!" Rika demanded.

Takato just ignored her.

"Takato did you drink at dinner again!?" Rika yelled.

"mmmm..." Takato mumbled into her neck. "You really think i was drinking root bear...? Ha!"

Rika then pushed Takato off her lightly. " Takato Masuki! You know what happens when you get drunk!"

Takato just smiled and he grabbed her arm and kissed his way up her arm.

Rika sighed. "Takato..."

Rika then gasped when she saw something or someone looking at them from the water. "Whos there?!" Rika demanded. Rika then stood up. "Show yourself!"

"Mmmm...baby what are you yelling at?" Takato asked hugging her from behind and kissing her neck.

"Whatever it was...it dived underwater."

"Babe i think YOU had to much to drink." Takato joked.

"Very funny Takato." Rika growled.

"Lets go to Kazu'z party honey." Takato then grabbed  Rika's arm and dragged her off.

"T-Takato wait!"

As they left whatever was watching them still was......

"Rikku..."

*****

9:30 PM

Because Rika didn't want to go to Kazu'z party she just went straight home and decided to talk to her mom about her and Takato.
 

"Mom.." Rika asked coming into her bedroom.

"Yes honey?"

"Its...about me and  Takato..." Rika sat on her mom's bed.

"Oh?" Her mom sat up and put her book away. "What's wrong?"

"Its just when he gets drunk-"

"What! What a minute are you saying Takato drinks?!"

'I didn't even tell her the worse part and already she's freaking out...'  "Yes but thats not it.."

"Oh what is then?" Her mother demanded. "You haven't slept with him  have you?"

"NO! Mom will you listen to me!"

"Sorry...go ahead."

"When he gets  drunk....he.....he...." Rika was shaking. How could she tell her own mother that her own boyfriend beats her.

"He what sweetie?"

"Nevermind mom.." Rika got up. "Its nothing."

"Well......ok." She said slowly. "But if you ever have a problem i'm here and so is you're  grandma."

Rika smiled weakly. "Thanks mom."

Rika's dream

Rika opened her eyes and some reason she was in the ocean. And in front of her was a merboy. He had dark blue  dark and was wearing a necklace made of sea shells. He smiled at Rika and took her hand. "Sakku ku la..."  Rika was very confused. She didn't recognize the language he was  speaking. The boy then pulled her close to him. Rika gasped. "Who are you?" Rika asked. He only smiled and leaned in  to kiss her.

Just when his lips almost touched her's there was a huge white light. "Wait!" Rika grabbed out towards him. "Who are you!"

End of dream

"WHO ARE YOU!" Rika then jolted up. She could feel the sweat running down the side of her  forehead. Her eyes wide. It was that same dream. "What is with that dream..." She asked herself. "I have never had it 3 nights in a row..."

"Rika!" Her mother called. "Time for breakfast!"

"Ok!" Rika called back. She got out of bed put on a white tank top and blue jeans and ran downstairs.

"Good good morning dear." Smiled her grandmother.

"Morning Grandma." Rika said sitting at the table. "What's for breakfast?"

"Pancakes." She replied setting a plate in front of Rika.

"Looks good grandma." Rika said. "Thanks."

Her grandmother smiled and went back to making more pancakes.

Okinawa

Kai was out on the beach relaxing when all of a sudden something jumped out of the water and back in.

"What the!" Kai yelled. "That looked like a mermaid!"  Kai shook his head.

"I must be going crazy."

Just then Kai's girlfriend Kiki came and sat beside him. "Hey Kai."  Kiki had long brown  dark hair and dark blue eyes. She wore a white tank top and white jeans.

"Oh hey Kiki."

Kiki got worried. "Is something wrong?"

"I just thought i saw a mermaid."

"A mermaid?" Questioned Kiki. "Are you serious?"

Kai nodded.  "Yes."

"Was she pretty?"

"He." Kai corrected.

"HE?! Well that changes everything!"

"It does?" Kai titled his head oddly at Kiki.

"A mer-boy! Oh he must of been totally cute!"

Kai then got a look of jealousy. "HEY!"

Ring, Ring, Ring

"Got it!" Takato called picking up the telephone. "Hello, Takato speaking."

"Hi Takato its Kai!"

"Hey Kai how's it going?"

"Fine thanks but i just saw the weirdest thing!"

"What?"

"A mermaid!"

"WHAT?!" Takato nearly dropped the phone.

"A mermaid!" Kai repeated.

Takato then heard Kai's girlfriend yell "Its Mer-boy Kai!"

"Mer-boy i mean." Kai said.

"A mer-boy?" Takato chuckled. "You sure you're not seeing things?"

"Yes!"

"My Rika thinks she saw something like that on our date."

"Do you think its the same thing?"

"Nah, impossible! How can it get from Japan to Okinawa so fast?"

"I don't know but its possible to me! It like he's looking for someone..."

"Looking for someone?" Takato asked. "Like who?"

"I don't know..." Kai sighed. "I just don't know.."

"Takato!" Called his mother. "Rika is here!"

"Ok! Tell her i'm in the living room!"

"Let me talk to her!" Kai said.

"Why?"

"Maybe i can ask her if she saw the same thing."

"Well ok."

Rika then walked into the living room and sat on the couch. Takato then handed her the phone. "Its for you." Takato said.

"Who is it?" Rika asked.

"Kai."

"Hello? Rika here."

"Hey Rika its Kai."

"So i heard...what's up?"

"Takato  told me you saw something on you're date?"

"Yes. It looked like a --.."

"Mer-boy?"

Rika gasped. "How did you..."

"I saw it! Its like he's looking for someone!"

"What makes you say that?"

Takato then tapped Rika on the shoulder and pointed to the tv.

Rika gasped.
 

"A whole bunch of sightings of a mermaid or as many say mer-boy have been spotted in Japan waters, Okinawa, China, and New York."  last week he was spotted in China and the week before New York,  and just today he was spotted in Okinawa.  An award has been set for anyone who can catch this mer-boy."

Rika dropped the phone. "T-They cant do that!"

"Um...baby?"

"THEY JUST CANT!"

"Ri!" Takato shouted. "Kai is still.."

"That poor mer-boy..."

"Are you listening to me?"

"What is it Takaot?" Rika snapped.

"Kai is still on the phone."

"Ah!"

After Rika left Takato's she walked down to the beach and watched the water. What did this mer-boy want? Was he really looking for someone? Or was he lost?  Rika snapped out of her thoughts when she saw him. It was in the water looking at her. He smiled. He seemed really happy to see her for some reason. "Rikku...." He whispered loud enough so she could hear him.  Rika walked closer so that the water touched her toes. "Who are you?" Rika asked softly. "Are you lost?"  The boy opened his arms wanting her to come closer.  "Rikku..." He smiled.  Rika then took off her shirt and pants (she has a swimsuit on!)  Because she was on her way to swimming. She then got into the water and swam out to wear the boy was.

They were now face to face. "Who are you?" Rika asked again.  The boy then took a close look at the necklace she was wearing.  "Oh you like this? I'm not sure where i got it all i know is i have had it ever since i was a baby." The boy then ran his hand through her hair.  Rika was starting to get nervous. "W-What are you doing?" His hand then reached up and grabbed her chin and pulled her face in closer.  "W-Wait!" Rika was blushing. His lips were almost on her's when...

"Rika!" A voice called out.

With out thinking the boy dove underwater and swam off.

"Wait!" Rika yelled. "Come back!"

"Rika!" The voice called again.

Rika growled and turned around. It was Takato.

Rika then swam back to shore.

"Rika what were you doing?! You could of freezed!" Takato put his jacket around her shoulders.

"Takato i saw the mer-boy!"

"You did? When?"

"He was just here!" Rika replied. "He tried to kiss me!"

"HE WHAT?! Oh he's  fish bait!" Takato growled.

"It was like...i dunno i met him before."

"That cant be." Takato put his arm around her. "Now lets go."

As Takato led Rika away the mer-boy sat on a rock that stuck out on the surface of the water and watched them leave.

Week Later

Over the week strange things had started to happened. Rika got faster at swimming and that rash started to show up on her legs and arms more and more. The doctor had no idea what it was. So he gave Rika some cream anyway to see if it would help. But it hasn't.  So later a beautiful sunday afternoon Rika went down to Kenta's at the dock. (Kenta lives in a boat in MY story..heheh) Because he was the smarty pants at school so maybe he would know.

Knock! Knock!

"Coming!" Kenta's voice called.    When he opened the door he was surprised to see Rika.

"Rika?" He questioned. "What are you doing here?"

"I need you're help." Rika replied.

Kenta  titled his head. "With what?"

"This." Rika then showed Kenta her 'rash.'

"Oh man." Kenta took her arm taking a closer look.

"The doctor has no idea what's wrong."

"Come in Rika." Kenta said. "Well see what we can do."

"Thanks." Rika smiled.

After hours and hours of waiting Kenta finally came out with the results of the test he did.  He looked very confused. It was like something just couldn't be right.

"Well?" Rika asked. "What is it?"

"Well Rika...i'm not really sure but...."

"But what?" Rika was starting to get nervous. Could this be serious?

"The rash on you're arm appears to be  fish scales."

"Fish?!" Rika stood up. "Are you serious?!"

"I think you're turning into a mermaid or something."

"M-Mermaid..." Rika shuttered.  "But how?"

"I don't know..." Kenta shrugged.  "Rika do you remember if you were adopted or something?"

Rika stood there thinking for a moment.
 

~FLASH BACK~
 

It was a poor day raining day in japan as a poor little baby girl was left on the street crying. Her cries didn't reach the people walking past her. Then a woman with a violet eyes picked up the small child. "Ohh you poor thing." She said softly.  "Someone left you here all alone." The woman then held the baby close. "Don't worry i will be you're new mommy."  The woman then saw a necklace made of sea shells around her neck.  "Ooh what a pretty necklace." She smiled. "I can tell you're going to grow up to be a pretty girl."

~END OF FLASH BACK~

Rika held her forehead. ' Where did that come from....' Rika thought.

"Well Rika?" Kenta asked.

"I'm not sure." Rika replied. "But i'm going to find out."
 

****

"Mom!" Rika ran into her mother's bedroom.

"Yes honey?" Her mother asked.

"We need to talk." Rika sat on the edge of  her bed.

"Oh? What about?"

"My birth...was i adopted?"

Mrs.Nonaka looked deeply into her daughters eyes. She had the right to know.

"Well dear." Mrs.Nonaka started.

"Yes?"

"Yes..."

"?"

"Yes you were adopted."

"Do you know who my real parents were?"

Mrs.Nonaka shook her head. "No i found you on the street when you were a baby."

Rika gasped. ' That vision...'

"So...you never found my real parents?" Rika asked.

Mrs. Nonaka shook her head once more.  "No."

"Oh..."

"Rika why did you wanna know this?"

"Because of this!" Rika showed her mom the rash.  "Kenta thinks i'm turning into a mermaid....and i'm started to think he's right."

"Oh thats just silly!"

"Mom think about it! I have gotten faster at swimming and this rash shows up more and more often now."

"It cant be true!" Mrs.Nonaka told her. "Now stop this fantasy!"

"FANTASY?! Mom~"

"Rika!" Her mom snapped. "Stop it!"

"But-"

Her mom glared telling her to knock it off.

Rika sighed and decided to drop it.

Later the next day Rika went back to Kenta's and saw his  dad getting a  huge fishing net ready. Rika then ran up to him. "What are you doing?"

"Setting up this net!" He replied. "That mer-boy is gonna show up sooner or later!"

"You cant catch him!" Rika yelled. "Leave him alone!"

"Mind yer own business!" He growled.

Kenta put a hand on her shoulder. "Sorry Rika..."

"He just cant..." Rika whispered.

"Ah!" Kenta's dad smiled. "There he is."

Rika gasped. She then shot her head up and saw the boy sticking his head out looking at Rika. He smiled and swam towards her.  "NO GET AWAY!!" Rika screamed. But he didn't listen because he didn't understand HER language. "NO NO NO!!" Rika yelled louder.  "Almost there...and "

The boy then swam right under were the net was.

"GOTCHA!" Kenta's dad grinned.  The boy struggled to get out of the net.   "Now all i have to do is - HEY! Kenta!"

Kenta grabbed his pocket knife and dove under water.

"Kenta!" Rika also yelled.  ' What is he doing...' Rika thought.

~Under water~

Kenta swam towards the net were the mer-boy struggled to get loose. He then stopped when he saw Kenta coming towards him. He backed up scared stiff.

"I wont hurt you." Kenta told him.  Kenta then got out his knife and started to cut him loose. The boy stared at Kenta oddly.

"Almost done....and......THERE!"  The boy then swam out of the net. Kenta started to swim up but his foot was caught in the net.  ' Oh no!' Kenta thought. Kenta stuggled to breath and get loose at the same time. The boy then swam up to Kenta trying to free him. When he finally did  Kenta was out of breath. The boy then grabbed Kenta and brought him up to the surface.

~surface~

"Look!" Rika pointed. "There he is!"

"Oh no!" Kenta's father gasped as he saw his son.  "Kenta!" He father then dived into the water and brought his son to the shore. "Is he ok?" Rika yelled running up to him.

"H-He's not breathing..." Kenta's father whispered.

"Here!" Rika then  layed Kenta down and pushed on his chest and breathed into his mouth. "1...2.....3."  Just then Rika's mom and grandmother as well as Takato showed up. "Rika!" They yelled.  Rika just continued to give Kenta CPR. "Breath Kenta! Breath!"  Just then a ghostly like figure floated over to them.

"WHAT THE?!" Takato screamed. "A ghost!!"

"A Mermaid ghost." Said Rika's mother.

Rika spun her head around. "W-Who are you?"

"Rika..." She smiled. "My baby girl."

"H-How did you..."

The woman chuckled. "My name is Diana and i'm you're real mother Rikku."

Rika gasped. "M-Mother?.....but my name isn't Rikku..."

Her mother smiled. "In our mermaid language Rikku means 'Rika.'"

"I don't understand..."

"Well you see... one day there was an attack to our village in the middle of the far ocean. You were trying to free you're true love from a net but couldn't save him. So i sent you to be re-born as a human on the land. Hoping someone would take you in. As for Jenn-"

"Jenn??" Rika questioned. "Is that...."

She nodded and looked back into the water where he was waiting. "His name is  Henry. That's what Jenn means in mermaid language."

Diana then looked back to Rika. "He misses you so much Rika...he has been looking for you for a very long time."

"Kenta!" His father yelled. "Please save him!"

Diana then shot a white light into Kenta's chest.

a second later Kenta slowly opened his eyes. "Dad...?"

His father then hugged him tightly.

"Diana?" Rika asked.

"Hmm?"

"Was Henry re-born as well?"

She nodded. "Yes but  i only had enough power to send you to land. Henry was re-born in the water but still had his memory of you."

"Why didn't i?"

"Because you were re-born as a human you had no memory of the ocean what so ever..."

"I see..."

"Rika you must come home." Diana said. "Henry loves you so much and wants you to come home."

"Henry..." Rika whispered.

"No!" Takato shouted. "Rika is MY girlfriend!"

"Takato..." Rika whispered. "I have too....if  i don't who knows what will happen to me."

"But....i love you..." Takato started to cry.

Rika stood up and kissed Takato's cheek. "Takato i love you but...." Rika turned back at the ocean. "I have to go home. Please understand."

Takato nodded slowly. "I....I understand."

Rika then turned to her mom. "Mom i...."

"I'm sorry i didn't believe you Rika...." Her mother was crying. "I'm gonna miss you so much."

"You're going to let me  go?" Rika asked. "You understand?"

Her mom nodded and gave Rika a big hug. As well as he grandma. "I'm gonna miss you dear." Her grandmother said sadly. "Please come up to the surface once and while to visit."

Rika nodded. "I will."

Rika then turned to Diana. "I'm ready."

Diana only pointed to Henry. "Only he can help you fully transform."

As Rika started to walked she stopped and turned back at her mother. (Diana.)

"But...Henry doesn't speak..."

"Once you are transformed you will know our language." She smiled. "Now go."

Rika nodded. She then jumped into the water and swam under to meet Henry.

Once they were face to face Henry grabbed Rika's face and kissed her fully on the lips. The kiss was sweet and  full with passion. Rika ran her hands through his  hair as he held her close.  Rika then noticed she no longer had legs. She had  fins! Her tail was a reddish  color.  Her hair was a bit longer  and in her hair were some sea shells. Her top was kinda like a bra made of sea-shells.  "Jenn...Sakka ka la."  (Henry i love you.)  He smiled back. "Rikku Sakka ka la ku."  (Rika i love you too.)   "Rikku que ka ku si ka ku."  (Rika i have been looking for you for a very long time my love.)  Henry felt her face with his hand.  Both smiled and them went up to the surface where everone was watching.  The two love birds were holding each other close. Rika smiled at her family and friends. She then laid her head on Henry's chest.

Takato was a bit jealous and mad but calmed down. He knew they were met to be long before him and Rika. Henry has been looking for Rika for years! He loves her way more then he ever would.  Diana smiled and dissapered  knowing her work here was done.  Rika and Henry gave each other another kiss. Henry then dove under. "I will miss you all." Rika called to them.

Rika then dove under water and held Henry's hand. The two lovers then swam off hoping to start a brand new life somewhere in the sea.
