The French affair.

It was quite an experience to visit Paris and to do my first show outside the Netherlands. I noticed so many powder puff shih tzu. They call it the 'sophisticated style' what ever that may be. They seem taller with higher legs, longer neck and narrow head with a lot of fluff and fancy 'top knot' with big ribbons and hair like a fountain coming out above it, who ever did invented this....?! What is the purpose of shaved upper lips and shaved under their tail and popo.... what nonsense is that! It's like deformed shih tzu. It is as if those shih tzu are Barbie dolls the American shih tzu type. Their expression is as if they look angry with attention on their for head hairdo. It would not have surprised me at all if they had nail varnish on their tows.

Surely this was not what the Empress Tzu Shi of China had in mind when she breed infinity adorable, witty, very alert, intelligent, sociable, strong, courageous and playful lion dogs as I am. I like to imagine she had something in mind as I hope to look like when I am a big boy, ....a 2 year old Fu Xing for instance.

Several Dutch breeders told mama she would not stand a chance with me in Paris. There for she did not go to Paris with me with high hopes but for the adventure and the experience at a dog show abroad. I can assure you that it was a French affair indeed.

An old France lady was happy to find me here, because she loves the English and Swedish type of shih tzu. Solid and sound with the broad head and the good characteristic qualities. No no no American, Italian, French or Spanish type they have no personality she said and waved away with her hand. She called me perfect no matter what Mme. Mery will judge about me.

My show actually already started at home when I was washed on Saturday before we left for France. It was a six hours drive to the south of Europe. We stayed in a hotel for 2 nights and I hardly slept because I am a home sick type. I missed Yang Yang, Xiao li and papa. It took us one hour to get to Paris by bus which was my first trip on the bus. And not to forget my first ride in the metro which took another hour to get to the Eiffel tower. When we were in the subway I left my souvenir but mama instantly removed it with a plastic recycle bag and left it in a bin. She carried me all the way through Paris. When we went for a stroll along the river Seine I was busy reading all the messages and gossip of my four legged French friends and of course I had to leave my story here and there in the grass and every where I tread. I had croissant and baguette with French cheese and salad with garlic sauce.... yummy yummy.

Mme C. Mery does her job the French way! She didn't even look at me only communicating with the boy while she was rubbing her fingers through my coat and then let me walk up and down once in a straight line while she allowed the television crew who was in the ring disturbing my walk. She made mama wait till she was the last to receive the results while she let others first who came later. I don't think you can overlook mama that easy... can you? We have this taped with our video camera who can't fool you. We know every one has his preferences.

Behind the ring I could see dogs in cages standing and do what they have to do between the bars. It is as if they live in a Zoo. The only cage we have is in the car to protect us when someone want to bump our car while we are driving. But in the cage there is a comfy rug nice and soft for us to lay down on. Mama don't want us to get launched trough the car and get killed.

I can see the Paris television crew over there....

Now they came to interview mama about me. Mama answered the reporter; we came from Holland and that I am 10 months old. She named me FU XING which means 'lucky star' in Chinese language. That I was Best Puppy last Summer in Amsterdam World Show. The reporter got interested in us because mama kept praising me for standing so still and beautiful. She loves to tell me that I am her dearest and most beautiful dog, but this is what she tells the other dogs at home too.... I'm not def or stupid you know.

How about this

Mme. Mery qualified me EXCELLENT! Finally for the first time I was not placed. We didn't even get a medal for participating as we are used to in the Netherlands. But we learned that France is not our country to show. This is what she thinks of me:

General appearance: satisfaction, Weight/Size: standard, Body: little too long, Coat/Color: correct, Head: good type and good eye color, Forequarters: very good, Mouth: excellent, Hindquarters: excellent, Movement: excellent, Tail: excellent

What else can a dog wish for huh? I love it all! Would not have missed it!

Fu Xing of The Wilacks #1 excellent Belgian Junior Winner 2002

Here is my report of the event in Belgium. There was black ice on the road as we left our home for Belgium on Saturday. Burrrr icicle cold it was and drizzly as we arrived in Brussels at the hotel. We went for a walk and for the first time I visit a Bulgarian restaurant. The food was excellent and I was permitted to sit next to mama on a seat as we share the salad and the roasted meat with some cooked rice. This is what I am used to do as it also happened in Paris at the Brasserie de l'Est. I never sit on the floor because I am a young emperor!

Mama had the flu when we left for Belgium and she was coughing too with her sore throat and fever. Even though she took her medicine, she lost her voice on the day I had to perform. I felt sorry for mama and behaved as easy going as I could be not to give her problems. Her eyes were painful an watery.

I got my official title BJW without any problem. Some misunderstanding occur about who was to go to the ring of honor. No doubt about this... it's me! All the 4 junior girls were not excellent enough but were approved with 'very good'. Poorly for the #1 vg junior girl because she desperately want to join me in the ring of honor. There was some astonished glances when the junior girl eventually showed up at the end of the parade.

To the readers of my show experiences I like to thank you for your encouragement and praise in e-mail. Interesting to mention that I started my show carrier in June this year at the World Winner Show as BOB Puppy and my last show was 1 day before my first birthday with BJW.
