Stephen C. Morehead, 59, of Lincoln died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tim Searby officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Morehead worked in law enforcement throughout his life. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections for 26 years and retired as Chief of the Jail and Detention Standard. He previously worked for the Lincoln Police Department, served as a deputy for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and worked in the Investigative Division of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. After retirement, he served as a part-time court bailiff and as courthouse security for Logan County.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1968 in the Criminal Intelligence Division.
He was born April 24, 1942, in Lincoln to Milo D. and Mary Catherine (King) Morehead. He married Mary Rose (Hickey) McCain on May 4, 1971, in Lincoln.
Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; his mother, of Lincoln; one son, Aaron (Sara) McCain of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Molly McCain of Lincoln; two brothers, Milo D. Morehead of Springfield and Donald K. Morehead of Salem, Ore; and two stepbrothers, Robert Milleville of Springfield and Donald Milleville of St. Peters, Mo.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to the police memorial for the state of Illinois. Morehead was very involved in that project.
