To all,
Best wishes for the new year/century/millenium (yeah I know, effectively it only starts next year, but since this is the year 2000 we will finally be rid of all those 'year 2000' ads and bugs and all..:-)
For all those prepairing for the New Year festivities, good luck. I know my teacher is working hard with his group for the festivities in early February; the 5th there will be lion dancing in The Hague, not sure about the dates for Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
BTW finally some students trained to jump on the shoulders, so that's one other stunt that our group can now do.. Better late than never..
Small update: my teachers group came in third last November (or was it October??) in the Dutch championships in Amsterdam.. The group that came in first was the only one that hadn't fallen; comments of my fellow students (I wasn't there): they didn't dance very beautifully, just never fell so they won. Well,.... maybe they didn't take as much risk, it's better than to fall..:-) And the second group was the inviting group, so "they had to come in second".. All just lousy excuses of my fellow students because they didn't come in first :-) ;-) We'll see in February,.. I'll get to see it too, I have planned to come to the Netherlands that weekend. I think the Rotterdam dancing will be on a weekday (Wednesday or so), so I won't be able to make it for that one.
Again, best wishes
and happy dancing,
Rob Teng

just called, apparently it is supposed to start in the early afternoon, around 1 pm, in the Wagenstraat, with a Kung Fu demo after the dancing, where all the lions (normally about 12 or so) will go to (square in front of the ? theatre building, Spui straat), around 4pm.
If you want to know exactly, please ask one of the participating restaurants in the Wagenstraat or that area, most participate,...
If you want to meet me, just ask for the Nijmegen Lion dance team.
Greets,
Rob
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATIONS. TILL THEN MAYBE WE WILL MEET EACHTOTHERS.

Geez... The list have been pretty quiet lately eh??
Does anyone have any show comming up for chinese new years??
Also, does anyone know of any store or supplier of lion dance equipment, preferable in canada or in the states? We're looking for "odds and ends", like pants, paws... pom poms... stuff like that.
Thanks,
Jason

Well, that's because you folks don't get the bounced messages :-)
I estimate that 95% of the time these bounced messages are from spammers, so that shouldn't be a problem anyways.. in the other 5% I occasionally forward the message to the list.

Hi,
Can you be a little more specific?? I'm from Montreal, and have no idea what you're talking about... can you possibly give me the phone number and adress??
Thanks,
Jason.
Our local High School usually organises a parade prior to its Athletics Day. This year one of the teams has decided on a Lion Dance theme, but we are having problems trying to find instructions and plans for constructing a Lion (we are in Namaqualand, South Africa. Although Chinese Dragons and Lions do form part of festivals held annually in Cape Town, tracing anyone with the requisite knowledge is proving difficult. Even the consulate seemed nonplussed). It is rather urgent as the Athletics are to be held in less than a fortnight's time (yes, I do realise that they will not be able to practice to the required degree, but then I doubt anyone here would know what the Dance should look like, anyway!). Any information and/or design drawings would be most welcome. Please e-mail to me, Dale Myburgh, or fax to +27 217 1477. Many thanx.
