Hi Robert. Here's what's on the tape so far hope you want VHS.
An indoor performance from a Hong Kong television show showcasing a very talented group from Macau. This is a single lion performance. First the lion comes out of a cave, then it climbs up a lot of chairs and benches and performs some very interesting tricks with objects that have symbolic meaning. Cool music.
Then there's a lion dance featuring several southern lions, a couple of northern lions, and a northern lion teaser. The northern lions climb a 3 table mountain, and one of the southern lions climbs up a set of pillars. The camera work cuts from camera to camera so there's a lot going on at the same time. That can be good if you like a lot of action all over the place, not so good if you want to closely study one lion.
A performance outside a Chinese supermarket called Lion City in Milpitas, California. Eight lions. Three separate routines. Special effects. Cool music.
Some pretty bad footage from a lion dance tournament in Hong Kong. The picture's not clear (you'll be shouting "TRACKING" during some of it!), and the sound from the gym is muddled. Just a good source for different moves. The five routines range from simple to complicated with a lot of props. There's a routine with a single bench. One with three wooden basins. A drunken lion routine. Another performance with two benches. And the last routine with many benches.
A performance of several northern lions. A rolling ball and seesaw with a female lion teaser.
Some footage from a lion dance tournament held in San Francisco. Three excellent groups perform their difficult dances on very complicated arrangements of benches, plum blossom piles, clay jugs, etc.
Again, the length of the tape is something between 1.5-2 hours.
Hi Kiley, do I have your latest email address? Your video is ready. It's about an hour and forty minutes on standard VHS tape. The cost once again is $40 plus shipping. Tell me how you want it sent to you and I'll tell you how much to add on to the cost and where to send your cashier's check or money order.
Lion Dance Training Seminar brought to you by the Wing Lam Lion Dance Team
Lion Dance is a traditional ceremony performed at New Year, grand openings, and other events to bring good luck and to chase away evil spirits. Though widely performed, most people are not familiar with the symbolism, traditions or the martial arts behind the dance.
The Wing Lam Lion Dance Team is honored to host a two day training seminar on Lion Dance. Leading the instruction will be Sifu Gobert Yeung from Dallas, Texas. Sifu Yeung has over 30 years performing and teaching Lion Dance. He learned the Hung Gar style in Hong Kong from the acclaimed master Chiu Chiao. Although Sifu Yeung is primarily an expert in the Hung Gar style lion dance, he is also knowledgable about other southern style lion dances. This past New Year's, his team performed a nine lion show that included bridges and ladders. It was televised on local TV.
