    Hi Everyone.

I've been listening for a couple of weeks now and I have some questions.

First let me explain the situation. I work with a puppet company that is doing a show about new year celebrations. One of the scenes involves a lion dance. I am to play the part of the lion, which is only one person - there is no tail. I've watched a video showing about 5 minutes of a troupe performing the dance, so I have an idea of what I will do, but I'm looking for any hints/comments anyone would care to share.

    Thanks,

    Josh Peters

    Hi Josh,

That sound interesting, what will you be using to play the lion? A puppet right? Will it something that you put together from watching the lion dance video? In my local China town, I saw little chinese Lion dance puppets for sale, which i though was pretty cool. Using any Muisc for your routine?

    Hi Jason,

Actually, I will be wearing a lion costume, with a full size head and everything. But like I said before, there is no tail section, although attached to the lion's head is cloth, just no second dancer. I tried it for the first time today and seemed to do ok. I can see how this could become addicting! One of the other puppeteers wears a budda mask, and will tease me. I haven't seen how the budda traditionally interacts with the lion and would appreciate any advice. We're just winging it as we go. The music we are using is called Enter the Dragon. Very good heavy music to dance to. It looks quite nice when we are performing it (at least that's what the director told us).

    Hi All,

The Lunar New Year is approaching. Are you getting ready for the season. This list has been quiet, let's hear the stories out there.

I also have a question. I'm collecting the rituals surrounding the awakening. (Hoi Ngan) We just raised two new lions and there was a lot of steps involved. I can write a summary if there is interest on the list.

I'd like to see what's involved with others.

    Stephen.

IS anyone going to be able to record the March San Fran seminar in its entirety? I'm very disappointed that nobody from my club will be there especially since Dr. Hu is a past member of our association. But, I did hear it said that video taping will be allowed. I was just thinking if someone could record the seminar in its entirety, I'm sure a lot of people like myself would purchase a copy.

    Anyone willing?

    Sherman
