Subject: [LionDance] HELP FOR A SPANISH LEARNER

    Dear liondancers of the world:

Maybe do you remember us. We are a theater company from Spain, looking for help. We are going to introduce a chinese lion at the end of our next show, that's what we want. We have met a teacher here in Spain, but he only knows to dance and make

one kind of lions, and tha's not the kind we are searching. I think we like the northern style, that kind of lion with a more realistic look. Maybe I'm wrong and 'northern' is not the right name. I'm talking about a kind of lion that is hairy, and has a face that looks more to a nice puppet. The other kinds of faces in 'southern' lions are more abstract, barroc, plenty of little things attached all over it. We need a more gentle face. Does any of you have a video tape or a CD showing how to make and dance such lion? Or at least a tape o CD that shows a nice performance of yours? Have you got any friend that could help us?

    Thank you very much.

    URGH!

Please don't send these things to this list!! Don't use this mailinglist as a way of spreading viruses either willingly or unwillingly.

    Bye,

Dear friends, I don't know how this mail came to you, well, I think I just sent one mail today, and that one I'm sure it was not that with the executable. I don't know how it was sent. I'm talking inmediately with my server. PLEASE, EXCUSE ME (and read the other and clear mail)

Hhm.. very simple.. someone else sent you 'happy99.exe' and you executed it. This person most likely didn't send it knowingly or intentionally either. Simply put: you seem to have caught a virus ;-)

The problem is that anybody executing this program you passed on will get the same virus, causing them to pass it on to bunches of other people, etc, etc.

Better learn how to get rid of this thing quickly... I don't know how to myself because I'm mostly working on Unix systems and use Pine as a mail reader so I'm hardly affected by this ;-) Perhaps someone else can give you some advice or you can gather some relevent information from the net.

    Good luck,

    Serhat Sakarya

    Dear friends:

I seem to have sent a little virus without my intention. Please, if you receive a mail through the list, sent by me, that contain a program named

    happy99.exe

DONT EXECUTE IT. DELETE IT inmediately. It was sent without my permission, I was no conscient of it. The virus is not dangerous (I hope), but it's a stupid joke.

    Excuse me, please.

The only way to protect your computers from virsues is to install a current version of a Anti-Virus Software. There are numerous programs that you may use, but keeping your program updated is the only way to protect your computer. Keep in mind that viruses are created and released everyday, so make sure that your protection is upgraded constantly. Here are a few programs you might want to consider getting:

    PC's:
    McAfee VirusScan (http://www.mcafee.com)
    Norton's AntiVirus (http://www.symantec.com)

    Mac:
    Virex (http://www.drsolomon.com)

These are just a few of the many different programs that you can use to protect your computer. All can be found at your local computer store or online at their websites.

You may download free trial versions from their respective websites. But keep in mind that simply having an anti-virus program isn't enough. You must keep you programs updated so that it can protect your systems from all of the new viruses as they are created.

    Dear Chris,

We have received your video tape, thanks a lot! Yes, it has not a good quality of image but it's useful for a beginner. We are on our way, we are just sure to introduce a chinese lion on our next show. It will be the surprising finale of the play, cause spanish audiences are not used to such 'animals' ;-)))

Also we have met a guy who seems to be the only one that knows how to dance a lion here in Spain. We have made a contact and he will be our teacher during two weeks in August.

The show is on. It's title: "The World in 80 Masks". You will be informed of our progress.

    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Hi dudes...our school is changing names so we're having a grand opening in two weeks plus the attendant lion dance. I'm working on the shoulder lift (standing on shoulder). We're also doing a demo next week at Canada's Wonderland (a theme park near Toronto).

I'm also looking for a present for my SiHing - something to do w/ lion dancing...videos, instructional or otherwise. Haven't finished looking through the lion's den webpage yet...anybody know how to get copies of the Malaysian tournaments??

    Bye,
    Hugo

    Hi Cory,

No pointers for lions in Taiwan but just wanted to wish you a great trip.

Do you know a shop in the Bay Area that sells just the frog buttons on kung-fu outfits? Do you know how to make them? Seem easy enough but the knots we tie all look funny :-(

    Stephen.

    Hi, Stephen,

If you need frog buttons, Jonie Uniforms on 2409 25th Avenue makes and sells them. I have spoken with her before. Nice lady.

    Thanks Ernie

Looks like no stop in Hawaii on this trip, but I know they're talking to people there as well as other cities in China. They're trying to time all of this for next year's year of the dragon. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    Aloha
