Los Angeles

The following reviews are independently written by people who have visited or purchased from the shops listed. They are provided for informational and review purposes only and should not be seen as either endorsements for or discouragements against using these vendors by myself or the Lion's Cave Website. If you are interested in purchasing Lion Dance equipment it is your responsibility to check into the details for yourself. I hope you find the following information helpful, but remember that everybody's opinion is different and product quality can vary depending on a number of different factors--so what one person experienced may or may not be true of the store now.

Just passed by and noticed they had a few gongs and a pair of cymbols in the display window. It actually looks more like a vase shop, but who knows...

Last time I checked their storefront they had about 7 lions (traditional southern style), a keilun, and a dragon head. They also had a small assortment of drums (regular black, red, and black with flowers in 24" and 27" diameters). They said they had much more equipment in their warehouse just a few blocks away. The heads were going for about $375 (#2 without a tail; a #1 with a tail was $750), and seemed to be very light. Don't know how strong they would be, but I don't think they'd stand up well under very vigorous use. The paper was very thin and some already had holes in them. The tails by themselves were $250 for the short ones. They had a pretty decent assortment of brass gongs there also--the good thick ones that have a solid "bong" sound, not the thin shiny ones that sound like you're hammering sheet metal. Didn't see any cymbols.
