The first of a three shot series. Cable is performing a Snapback attack, in this case a kick. This forces Hulk to switch out, and one of the background characters (in this case cyclops) to become the active character. This could be very useful since characters are usually swapped out so they can recover red (temporary) damage. If you call your opponent's recovering fighter, they will suffer that damage, instead of being able to recover it.

The next shot in the series. Hulk has disappeared, somehow swapped out.

Continuing on from the last shot, Cyclops has been snapped in. It doesn't look like he's attacking either, unlike the Variable Attack (normal swap). Hard to believe that background is made from polygons eh?

Another of Marvel vs. Capcom 2's new features, the Variable Assist (evolved from Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter's technique). After selecting each of your characters you pick their Variable Assist move, labelled Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Pressing the Assist buttons calls in one of your background characters to do a Variable Assist. Captain America has called in Ryu to do his Beta Assist, the Shouryuken on Sonson.

The same characters as before, only this is Ryu's Alpha Assist, the Hadouken.

An interesting shot. Everyone's favourite cheeseloaf Strider is striking new Capcom character Amingo. Strider has also used his Variable Assist, calling in Sonson. Not sure what she's doing. One of her Super Combos starts with this pose, but it's unlikely that a SC could be an Assist.

At first glance this shot seems pretty self-explanatory: Ryu performing his Shinkuu Hadouken on Zangief. But what are all the red flashes? I'd say it's residue from Cyclop's Super Optic Blast, but if Cyclops had just done that attack he would be last on Player 1's roster, not next in line.
