MvsC2 DC impressions at Higher Voltage Higher Voltage has posted some impressions of the Dreamcast version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. See the some full article or read on for my highlights, concerning the Dreamcasts's version's new features and the storyline from the manual. "I've had the DC version for an hour now - and my eyes are bleeding profusely. It's just such an orgy of colour and pyrotechnics .... I'm totally blown away. "One of my favourite things is the "VS" shop. You fight and earn points - and with these points you can buy extra characters (Omega Red was a bargain at 2385) costumes etc. "There's a neat training mode (though no moves list) and a score attack mode, as well as "Network Battle" - which I can't use :), Vs mode, the aforementioned shop, options and memory card stuff. All the menus are rendered in the wonderful high resolution that this whole game runs in. "Oh yeah - if you're interested - here's the story taken from the manual. "Armor of Erosion. What should not be more than a fairy tale. What should not be awaken forever. But the end has come. Wheel of fortune resurrected it from limbo of legends. Hideous wave from the armor has mutated fishes, and unholy wind from the sea killed surface lives. "When doomful shadow covers hope, warriors join, In search of the Abyss, which is supposed to bring everything back to the Sea of Genesis." "Um....riiight. Anyone?"
Capcom Japan Marvel vs. Capcom 2 site launched In a blaze of kanji the Capcom Japan MvsC2 site has opened. It's all in Japanese of course, but all the art and moves are up, and a download for people with Japanese ISPs. It unlocks Shuma Gorath, Chun Li, Omega Red, Megaman; a new color for Cable, Marrow, Ruby Heart and Sonson and a new stage.
GameFan MvsC2 Dreamcast screenshots GameFan has just received the Dreamcast version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from Japan and have put up a heap of new screenshots. You can also see them here at Grand Archive. They're from the Dreamcast version and are really clear, and show how much detail goes into the backgrounds.
Videogames.com SNK vs. Capcom preview There is a small preview on SNK vs. Capcom at Videogames.com. All the screenshots have previously been released at Madman's Cafe and archived here, but there's a little new info: Though originally scheduled for an early 2000 release, the Dreamcast SNK vs. Capcom title has seen delay after delay, mostly due to the amount of tuning that a melding of two stylistically different series requires. Indeed, Capcom's development team has had to retouch and animate thousands of frames of animation just to make the merging of the two character sets look appropriate. It is because of these requirements that the arcade version is only now nearing 90 percent complete and why the Dreamcast waits for its own port of the game. SNK vs. Capcom will feature 16 characters, the choice of either SNK or Capcom fighting systems, and all of the obligatory combo action both genres are known for. The obvious characters will be included: Ken, Ryu, Iori, Kyo, and Terry. But fighting fans will rejoice in the knowledge that Blanka, Rayden, Leona, and Benimaru will also make their way onto the battlefield. Capcom is working hard to render all-new 3D backgrounds for the game. Thus, while the game will still offer standard 2D fighting on a 2D plane, the backgrounds will animate and scroll in a manner similar to SNK's recent King of Fighters DM '99 and King of Fighters '99 Evolution titles. Since the game is being developed on Naomi arcade hardware, the DC port won't differ greatly from its arcade counterpart. Oddly enough, the major delays aren't related to design or programming, but are related to marketing and practicality. SNK just released Mark of the Wolves in arcades, and KOF '99 Evolution will be out soon for the Dreamcast, while Capcom is putting the finishing touches on Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for both the arcade and the DC. Since neither company wants to impact sales of its current efforts, SNK vs. Capcom may be pushed back so as to avoid glutting the market. Latest word has the arcade version coming out in June, with a Dreamcast Japan release around September. While no US date has been set, a late fourth-quarter release isn't out of the question.
GPOW on MvsC2 Dreamcast Gouki's Page of Whatever is preparing for a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Extravaganza, a 24 hours sit-in with the Dreamcast edition. They're planning on having save files available and lots of news, photos and secrets. On the page so far are a couple of new facts: Forty-Eight (48) characters have been spotted in the Dreamcast version of MVC2. The following have been spotted in the SECRET SHOP where one purchases characters using points obtained from the Arcade, DC Single player, and the NET Vs. or DC Vs. : CAPCOM (12) : Silver Samurai, Juggernaut, Gambit, Magneto, Omega Red, Storm, Colossus, Blackheart, Sabretooth, Wolverine I, Spiral, Shuma-Gorath. MARVEL (12) : Gouki, Bulleta, Jin, Nash, Ken, Dhalsim, Morrigan, Vega, Rockman, Roll, Captain Commando, Chun-Li. The Demo screen shows there to be 56 characters - 24 regular, 38 sillouettes. There is definately a large amount in there to be unlocked. We have outside help constantly working with us to figure out the secrets of the game. So again, we're playing with numbers. This supports the unofficial list released by Madman, with 56 characters even though the arcade select screen only shows 52.
Gouki's Page of Whatever returns Grand Archive welcomes Gouki's Page of Whatever back to the fray. In case you're new around here, GPOW was one of the greatest Street Fighter / Capcom sites before Gouki froze the site year. It's now reactivated under the management of DeSpider and Shadow Jin. The competition looks hot... | ![]() |
