Why must you eat in front of me
but never give me any?
I only get dry dog food
and some treats, but not many.
I watch you as you pick at food
and then throw left-overs away.
All that food would be in my bowl
if I could have my way.
You munch on pretzels and popcorn
and pile dip onto your chips
I quiver to even imagine
such delecasies on my lips.
I sit, I speak, I stay,
I do all of the tricks you wish.
How come there's never pot pie
inside my dinner dish?
I hate to complain,
'cause dogs rarely do.
But the concept of sharing
tends to evade you.
Don't tell me you don't notice
my sad brown eyes and droopy tail.
The whimper that escapes my throat
at every meal without fail.
You take me to the drive thru
but, from what I can tell,
you never intend to share
your Meximelts from Taco Bell!
I am your loyalest of friends,
Top dog, tried and true.
But my patience in wearing very thin
and this partnership could be through.
I'll trade you a Milkbone for a pizza slice,
and a rawhide for one more.
No? Okay, this is it!
Watch me walk right out this door!
See me as I walk away?
I'm leaving now for good!
I'll find an owner who eats good food
and shares it like she should!
Wait! What's this!
You dropped a crumb!
Good Lordy above!
My day has come!
I'll stay with you forever,
cleaning up the floor!
I'll stare at you and quietly pray
that soon you'll drop some more.
The End!
