The Marvel Universe is
under a threat more dangerous than it has ever faced, and it's heroes are powerless to
stop it
It is the threat of total
annihilation, and it is not the work of Thanos, Onslaught or Galactus. The source of the
danger is much more sinister and far reaching, that it threatens not only the Marvelverse,
but every comic book universe in existence. It is the danger of the COLLAPSE OF THE COMIC
BOOK INDUSTRY itself.
For those who are unaware, sales
are at an all time low. The mission of the M.M.M.S. is to change this for the better, and
while we're at it, get to know our fellow fans a little better. Comic book professionals
are already doing everything they can to turn the industry around, but we outnumber them
substantially. It is time for we the fans, to take up the battle cry. All it would take
would be for every fan to recruit just one more reader and we could turn the problems
around.
So how can you help?
* Be
proud of your hobby. Let others people know that you are interested in comics.
Society needs to learn that comic books are read by people of all ages and from all walks
of life. And the only way they will learn it is if we show them. Read them in view of
others and if anyone asks you about them, be friendly and answer any questions they have.
* Introduce
your friends to reading comics. If they are interested in things which are
similiar, then chances are that they will like comics too if they can be persuaded give it
a chance. If they like Pulp Fiction, give them Black Panther to read. If they like Star
Trek, show them your Star Trek comics. If they like Bond movies, show them Danger Girl.
And so on.
* Give
away cheap or unwanted comics to kids. It's easier than you might think to find
opportunities to do this. Birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, or just to reward them for good
behaviour, whether they be relatives, friends or complete strangers.
* Get
to know the other fans in your area. This has a lot of benefits and
is generally fun for everyone. You can work on recruiting new readers together and other
MMMS activities. Also if anyone is getting disillusioned about comics, they are less
likely to do so if they are involved in them socially. Have fun.
* If
you're a website owner, create a section on your page about the MMMS. You're
welcome to use the any of the MMMS images found on this page. Alternatively you can also
just add a link to this page or Sean's page at 4 Freedom's Plaza.
* Find
other ways to increase comic awareness in your area. Discuss ideas with your
local comic shop owner. And if you think of any other good ideas you can contact the MMMS
mailing list at MMMS@sigma.net

We CAN make a difference, but
