Christmas Eve 8.30 p.m.
Bobby and Lindsay arrive home exhausted and breathe a collective sigh of relief. Their weekend has been hectic but they've achieved their objective. Tomorrow they are completely free of obligations. Friday night they hosted an office Christmas dinner. Saturday they had lunch with Lindsay's father and then dinner with her mother. Today, being Sunday, they spent with Bobby's father. Helen is away on a skiing holiday so, assuming she doesn't break any bones, they won't see her for another week. They therefore have Christmas day all to themselves. Their plans for the day are very simple; they will eat when they are hungry, at some stage they will exchange gifts and the rest they'll just play by ear.
Having hung up her coat Lindsay stands and admires their tree. It isn't the most elaborately or beautifully decorated tree she has ever seen but she does believe it may well be the most interestingly decorated one. She and Bobby decorated it together in what was one of the most bizarre and delightful experiences of her life. Having gone out for drinks to celebrate a win in court they arrived home too excited to sleep. So, despite the late hour, they decided to decorate. What she anticipated would be a calming influence before bed Bobby turned into an elaborate game of truth or dare, or more accurately truth or bare. The rules were simple, in order to place an ornament on the tree you first had to either truthfully answer an intimate question or remove a piece of clothing. By the time the tree was finished they had bared both body and soul to each other and felt a connection stronger than ever before. They'd awoken the morning after wrapped in each other's arms under the tree. Bobby had whispered huskily into her ear "Now that is a Christmas tradition that definitely should be repeated." To which Lindsay had wholeheartedly agreed. Never before had she realized tree decorating could be considered a contact sport and never again will she look at it as just a boring but necessary chore of Christmas. She cannot look at the tree without a secret satisfied grin erupting and tonight is no different.
Lindsay smiles as she feels two strong arms wrap possessively around her waist and warm lips press against her neck. She leans back into his body and hums contentedly as he pulls her tighter and intensifies his kiss.
"You know little girl Santa won't come unless you're in bed" she hears and giggles. Lindsay looks back at him with a grin "Do you actually believe there is room under that tree for anything else?" she asks incredulously. He joins her in looking at their tree and the ridiculously large number of presents under it. His only reply though is a small chuckle. "Don't you think we went a little overboard this year Bobby?" she asks seriously.
"No honestly I don't" he replies "It's our first Christmas married and it's the last Christmas that will be just us" he rubs her stomach affectionately and she places her hand over his "so I think we deserved to go a little crazy this year Lindsay."
Lindsay smiles and looks at the presents "A little crazy?" she laughs "Bobby we went a lot crazy."
"Tell you what" he spins her around so she is facing him "open that blue parcel now and that will give Santa some room to leave us whatever he has to leave."
Lindsay looks from him to the big blue box suddenly feeling like a little kid "Really I can open it now?" she asks excitedly. Bobby nods. She kisses his cheek and then rushes over to the tree reaching past all the other packages to get to the blue one. Although it's big it is light and her curiosity is aroused by this. She turns a questioning glance towards Bobby only to find he has left the room. "Bobby?" she calls out disappointed.
"Open it Lindsay I'll be back in a sec" she hears come from their bedroom.
Lindsay really wants to open the parcel with him there so she carries it over to the couch and sits to wait for Bobby's return. When five minutes have passed without him coming back she decides she cannot wait any longer and excitedly rips into the paper. She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes as she opens the lid of the box. She opens her eyes and her face screws up in confusion. The box is empty. "Bo ... wha ... huh" she mutters looking into it again not quite able to believe it's really empty. Shaking her head and smiling she gets up and walks towards the bedroom thinking 'what is he up to now?' She places an 'I'm not amused' look on her face and tries to portray a stern appearance when inside she is giddy with excitement and intrigue. She takes a deep composing breath as she reaches the bedroom door but when she sees him she cannot control her reaction and laughs loudly.
He looks at her with an offended look on his face and in a petulant voice says "You know it isn't nice to laugh like that at a naked man Lindsay you have no idea how much damage you might do to his ego."
"Your 'ego' looks like it's doing just fine to me" Lindsay says slyly whilst still laughing. She is laughing so hard now tears are streaming down her face. She puts a hand over her mouth and tries to bring herself under control but every time she looks at him she just ends up laughing even harder. The more she tries to stop the harder it becomes. "Sorry .... oh Bobby ... I'm sorry " she mumbles between laughs but cannot, no matter how hard she tries, get herself under control.
Bobby puts his hands on his hips and looks at her sternly. The effect this has is the last straw for Lindsay. She falls back against the wall and slides down until she is sitting on the floor completely hysterical "Oh Bobby stop it I'm getting dizzy" she manages to utter while taking big gulping breaths. She looks up at him pleadingly and then laughs again. He is standing there hands on hips wearing nothing but a blue ribbon wrapped over his shoulder and chest and tied in a bow around his waist, a matching rosette is stuck on his forehead and he has the goofiest grin on his face she has ever seen. "So this is my present?" she asks waving her hands towards him barely able to get the sentence out.
"No this is your present" he answers and begins to do body building poses.
"Oh my God! Bobby Bobby Bobby stop it!" she screeches holding her sides in pain from laughing too much.
"What you don't like?" he says with puppy dog eyes and a pout.
"I like" she chuckles "I definitely like but if you don't stop now I think I may die."
"Ok I'll stop" he smiles at her and then gives one more pose for good measure.
"Good" she says still hiding her mouth behind her hand and struggling to breathe. He stands there watching her and she sits there watching him. They have matching smiles and eyes bright with mischief.
"Aren't you going to come and unwrap your package?" he asks waggling his eyebrows at her when it appears she's regained composure a little.
"I would if I could get up" she chuckles.
He reaches his arm out and she takes his hand. He pulls her to her feet and against him. "So Lindsay, what was your best ever Christmas present?" he asks.
Taking hold of the bow round his waist and giving it a tug until it unravels she looks up at him and says "I don't know Bobby, I don't think I've received it yet but I have a feeling I'm about to"
