LIZZIE'S TIPS ON
HOUSEBREAKING, GROOMING
AND OTHER THINGS TOO!

Hello everybody!

This tip section of mine is meant to be helpful to both Silky Terriers and their humans. When Mom and Dad first brought me home, Mom went online and surfed the Internet for advice on housebreaking, grooming, dietary needs and all kinds of stuff. I felt sorry for her because she worked so hard and nothing worked for her like it was supposed to. There are lots of great sites out there and they are really helpful, but if your Mom & Dad are hard to train like mine are, then my personal tips might be helpful!

Love ya, Lizzie

Housebreaking a Silky Terrier
It's very hard for our humans to understand that we Silkies do not like being told what to do. In fact, I can honestly tell you that nothing makes me madder than being told what to do. My advise to Moms & Dads is to never ever TELL a Silky to go outside and go potty. Instead you politely ASK a Silky if they'd like to go outside and go potty! And most important, ALWAYS give your Silky a Milkbone or other treat after they potty outside.

Grooming a Silky Terrier
Your Mom & Dad can probably handle giving baths, brushing and combing your hair, brushing your teeth and checking your ears, but if they're anything like my Mom and Dad, NEVER EVER let them clip your toenails! Honey and I go to be groomed once a month and we have our nails clipped then.

Feeding a Silky Terrier
I was a very picky eater when I was a young pup. When I was one year old Honey came to live with us and I got over being picky real quick, I sure wasn't gonna let her get all the food! We like Iams Lamb & Rice dry dog food and sometimes mom adds a dog food supplement named "Missing Link". Mom also puts a little bit of baked or boiled chicken in with our food. Sometimes we even get HAM instead of chicken! We find everything...the chicken, the ham, the Iams dog food, and the Missing Link...to be mighty tasty!

Crating a Silky Terrier
Would you believe it, Mom & Dad used to crate me when they left the house 'cause they didn't trust me?!? They never left me in the crate very long, maybe 2 hours at the most 'cause they felt bad about crating me. But you know what?...I really didn't mind being crated, in fact, my crate was my safety zone when I was a pup.

When Honey came to live with us, Mom bought her a crate too, but Honey didn't like being crated, she would cry when they put her in the crate. Because Honey's an old dog and also because Mom & Dad trusted Honey, they didn't make her stay in her crate. I decided if Honey didn't have to use her crate then I wouldn't use mine anymore. I haven't used my crate since Honey came to live with us.

For a while, when Mom & Dad would go away for a couple of hours they'd shut all the doors in the house and only let us use a couple of rooms where I couldn't tear anything up. I'm happy to say that now, Mom says I can be trusted to not chew up things like I did when I was young, so Honey and I now have complete run of the house!

Toys For a Silky Terrier
Toys are good for Silky Terriers. We Silkies can never have too many toys and the more we have the better! I recommend colorful stuffed toys, cute latex toys, funny rope animal toys and old socks (tied in a knot) from your Dad.

Important Note: I don't recommend playing with the cable TV remote control device because Moms & Dads don't appreciate having to replace them at $10 a pop. I do have to say though, it was worth the $40 to me even if it wasn't worth it to Mom & Dad!
