I stood in silence as my eyes were washed with biting pain.
I will remember this reprehensible moment forever,
And, therefore, I am.
I call to my soul, in fear that I may have lost it to this terror:
I mentioned, to myself, that this could only be a dream
And I will awaken to this September day in all its glorious splendor.
I bargained with my faith and offered my gestures
Of forgiveness, kindness and tolerance forever,
And, therefore, I am.
I decided to give council to myself and others,
Through my gifts of written words and music.
I wrote a verse, which bled with the deepest of sorrows
Onto my book of recollections,
As I waited for this present moment to claim me.
I stood in silence, as my heart was lost to this sin.
I walked amongst humanity and watched it age away,
Before my very eyes.
And, therefore I am.
I called upon eternity to remember each regretful
Second that dissolved this day.
I wandered like a stranger,
in this city of mine, for I have lost myself
To the pain and death of all others,
And, therefore, I am.
I continue and expect my dreams of world tolerance
To be given birth,
A new life, a new way of touching each other's hunger
With the breath of global labor,
And, therefore, we are.
