Grandparents' Day

The first Sunday after Labour Day in September is Grandparents' Day. This day was invented in 1979 in America. Everywhere in the United States will celebrate this day on September 9, 2001 except in Massachusetts. It would be interesting to know why people in there observe this day on the first Sunday in October.

In Canada, weeks before this day, we can see gift shops, flower shops and card shops have banners to remind us when Grandparents' Day will be. Yet, gift-giving on this day is not as popular as it is on Mother's Day or Father's Day.

So, what do Canadians usually do on this day? Well, we call our grandparents or have quality time with them if they live close by. For people without grandparents, they may go to retirement homes to keep company with the seniors.

How would you spend this day with your Grandparents?
