Cavy Genders |
Males 2-4 pounds over a foot in length more likely to be aggressive/bite (cavies rarely bite) have an odor (not a bad one) may fight with housemates |
Females 1-2 pounds about a foot in length calm and passive only smell if you don't keep their home clean get along well with housemates (most of the time) |
Overall, both genders make good pets. It's up to you to choose which you'd prefer. If you're getting more than one cavy, you may want to get two females because, 9 times out of 10, they will get along well together in the same house. Male cavies are more dominant and may fight each other. DO NOT put a male and female cavy together. They will breed and any animal should not be bred unless you can guarantee homes for all the babies. There are too many homeless animals out there already--do not add to the problem. If you only want one cavy, make sure to give it EXTRA attention since cavies are social animals. |
