BEDDING |
There are many beddings out there available for cavies. However, many of them are bad for a cavy's health. CEDAR- This fragrant wood contains oils that are bad for cavies. They can suffer respiratory problems and eye problems because of the oils. This type of bedding should not be used. KILN-DRIED PINE- This wood is good for cavy bedding. However, their are studies out there that suggest that pine shavings are just as bad as cedar. I use pine shavings and have had no problems with them. Sometimes, they are a little dusty which can irritate a cavy's eyes and nose. CAREFRESH- Although I do not know a lot about this type of bedding, I've heard it is great. It is safer for cavies than pine. However, it is expensive. A cavy's bedding should be changed at least twice a week. (We clean our piggers' homes every other day) |
