When you decide to get a cavy, make sure you do a lot of research. Like cats, dogs and children, cavies require a lot of work, love and attention. They aren't toys--you actually have to do things with them and care for them. Make sure that you have the time and dedication to take care of your cavy. You must keep their homes clean, give them fresh food and water daily, and give them love and stimulation. You can't just leave them alone in their homes all day. You also can't expect to just 'toss them out' if you get sick of them (or if they/their house smells because you've been lax in your cleaning duties). When you buy a cavy, you make a committment to take care of them for their whole lives. Please think long and hard before you get one. There are enough homeless cavies out there; please do not add to the problem. Please be a responsible cavy owner. Please read this and take it into consideration before you buy a cavy. Before you buy me. (c) Carolyn Mullin This is helpful to read as well. |
