Vincent D'Onofrio, who costars with Mol in The Thirteenth Floor, was one of the guest speakers at the recent Los Angeles tribute to director Stanley Kubrick who died earlier this year.

D'Onofrio made his film debut in 1987 in Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

"Stanley gave me my first film role and it wasn't in some Goonies or Gremlins movie. He helped me establish myself as a serious character actor and I'm eternally grateful to him for that."

D'Onofrio recalls he was starring on Broadway in Open Admission when his agent got him to submit a videotape to Kubrick, who wanted an unknown actor for the role of the overweight army recruit.

"He sent word back that he wanted me to make a second tape and stressed that I'd have to gain at least 50 lbs. if I wanted the role. He cast me without ever meeting me personally.

"His best piece of advice was that being real is one thing, but being interesting is better."
