"An apple a day keeps the... Ah." - 'The Doctor'

THE STORY

The TARDIS visits the planet Deva Loka, an idyllic forest world, where Nyssa remains behind in the ship to recover from a mild mental disorientation, while the Doctor, Tegan and Adric explore. Tegan falls asleep under some wind chimes and becomes possessed by an evil force, the Mara. Also on Deva Loka are a survey team assessing the planet for colonisation, but three of their group have disappeared and the remainder - Sanders, his deputy Hindle and the scientist Todd - are encountering difficulties in their dealings with the Kinda, the native inhabitants.

The Kinda, although appearing primitive, are telepathically gifted. One of the Kinda, Aris is also possessed by the Mara, and threatens to lead his people into conmflict with the survet team. Hindle becomes dangerously unstable, but his mind is eventually cleared by the Box of Jhana, a Kinda device. Aided by the Kinda, the Doctor ultimately suceeds in banishing the Mara - which manifests itself in the form of a giant snake - by trapping it in a circle of mirrors.
