To weaken Earth's resistance they use the T-Mat to transport seed pods to selected points on the Earth's surface.
The seeds emit a fungus which draws oxygen from the surrounding atmosphere, making it lethal to humans, but perfect for Martians. The trio use the T-Mat to
get back to Earth where the Doctor discovers that water destroys the pods, and after dealing with an Ice Warrior guarding the local weather control bureau adjusts
the instruments to cause a downpour, removing the threat of the seeds. He then returns to the Moon where he misdirects the Martian fleet into orbit around the Sun,
destroying the Ice Warrior's invasion plans.
THE STORY
The TARDIS brings the travellers to Earth in the 21st Century, where they discover that human society is
now dependent on T-Mat- a matter transmitting device that has revolutionised travel across the globe. The system, controlled
by Commander Radnor and his assistant Gia Kelly, is malfunctioning and the Doctor and his companions offer to take an old fashioned
rocket, designed by Professor Daniel Eldred, to the Moon relay station to investigate. There they discover that the Ice Warriors have
taken over as part of an invasion attempt.

This was the second appearance by the Ice Warriors, originally natives of the planet Mars. They went on to appear in two further
television stories during the Third Doctor's era.
Props from early stories were used as exhibits in Eldred's museum, including a spacesuit from 'The Tenth Planet', The TARDIS's astral map from 'The Web Planet',
the Dominator's drill from, suprisingly 'The Dominators' and the Morok freezing machine from 'The Space Museum'.
Patrick Troughton makes no appearance in episode four as he was on holiday duiring recording. Tommy Laird doubled for him in the scenes in which the Doctor is shown unconscious.
