| THE ASSUMPTION OF IMMORTALITY | ||||||
| When Jesus spoke of "everlasting life", What did he mean by that? Well, I for one like to take things literally so I will do so here. I say he meant physical immortality. Why do I believe this? Well, first of all, if I'm wrong, and Jesus was merely speaking of some non-physical afterlife, there is a significant question as to why Jesus would go out of his way to promise this to his followers. After all, in Jesus' day, there had already been a long tradition of believing in the immortality of the soul. Most at the time believed they already had "everlasting (after) life". Yet Jesus asserted his notion of "everlasting life" so prominently in his gospel. Why? Because he meant something more spectacular than "everlasting afterlife". He was speaking of a new kind of human being. A human being that does not age or die because he (or she) has finally freed himself from the original sin. Jesus' idea of the "Kingdom of Heaven" was a society in which all the members of that society have freed themselves from their sins. In the Kingdom of Heaven, we are all immortals. Why? Because we all have earned our everlasting life through our loving deeds. It is theoretical, but aren't all things theoretical BEFORE they're actualized? This is the great Kingdom of Heaven of which Jesus spoke. The different Churches would have you believe all kinds of long-shot interpretations of the Kingdom, but none make more sense than the one I have just delineated. It is a physical society with physical people, and the people in it are physically immortal. Christ, how far we've fallen!!!" Today, what we can learn from this is that we must forever walk the earth from here on with "an assumption of immortality" -- all of your ambitions, dreams, hopes, decisions, thoughts, and every other mental machination whatsoever must sit on an underlying "assumption of immortality." In other words, time is on your side, no rush, you learn from mistakes, the whole unconscious-impatient mode that most death-believers fall prey to is no longer an issue for you. Time is not an issue. You have an infinite time to perfect your life and your self. Indeed, without this "assumption" underlying your thinking, it will prove very difficult to free yourself from your sins. Why? Well, because sin is nothing more than impatience (based on the erroneous notion of finite life) giving rise to prickishness. See: CYCLE OF DEATH. Do what thou wilt, under the law? "Ah, but what law, Mr. Crowley? The law of the Spirit?" He asked, smirking. "After all your writing? Shouldn't I just know?" Here it is: Each being in your presence must be liberated in your presence. You can detect shackles and unlock them. (Some might be actual metal shackles.) It is so easy it is basically effortless. to unlock them. Unlock the shackles and move to the next one -- shackle, that is. Be careful, too much liberation is also shackle producing. The rule, however, is if it ceases to be effortless on your end, you have to ask yourself whether it's worth the effort. Step back a bit. Though it's always worth it, some like their shackles. Ha Ha . . . The assumption of immortality has another meaning. You should live and act "as though" you know you will live forever. Act the part. Play the immortal. Your conduct should be that of a sacred being. TW: COMING UP -- How to conduct yourself as a sacred being. TODAY's WISDOM ARCHIVES BACK TO MANUAL |
