Jim
spent time talking with many famous race drivers over the years as he continued
to improve the designs and performance of racing springs for the cars built
by Matthew-Warren (Rockwell International). Here he is shown concentrating
deeply on every word that the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. is sharing with
him at a NASCAR event.
The following tribute was published along with the above picture in the Thursday, August 1, 2001, issue of the Pharos Tribune, Logansport, IN.
Logansport loses its own racing legendLast Saturday, a racing legend, Jim Fiedler, passed away after fighting a long illness.
For many years, Jim Fiedler was responsible for the successful race car spring business at Matthew-Warren/Hyperco. Jim was very proud of the unprecedented feat of 37 straight suspension spring winners at the Indianapolis 500.
At 6-foot-8, "Fid" cut an imposing path whether he was at Daytona, Amber's Restaurant or the Brickyard. Over the years, Jim was involved with many innovative design and quality changes in race car springs. He became the friend and confidant of many other racing legends, including Foyt, Penske, Ganassi, Earnhardt, Wallace and Andretti. You can look at the pictures that line his office walls and see the kind of friendship he had with these racing icons.
His many friends in racing and at MW miss him dearly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jo, Kim and the Fiedler family.Friends from Matthew-Warren Hyperco
