Summary of the events which happened after~ THE AFTERMATH

While TVB has continued its stand on completely ignoring Nic: not inviting him to TV shows, not playing his songs, cutting his face out or totally leaving him out, etc., it has gone another step further—a little too far in my opinion. TVB has officially said that anyone supporting Nic (i.e. Nic’s good friends Cecilia Yeung, Eason...) will not be doing themselves any good. WHAT IS THIS? TVB is not only acting like a cranky and spoiled child in their treatment of Nic (think about it- if you hurt a cranky and spoiled child, isn’t that how they would react and treat you after? They would ignore you and try to make you pay for what you did to them!), but now they are trying to control how people act and trying to make Nic lose his friends (i.e. make them scared to support Nic because they will lose their jobs). Nic’s god mother, Wong Ming Chuen, a very respected TVB actress, has openly said that she will not beg TVB to change their decision regarding Nic, saying that he should be responsible for his own actions. I think that TVB is definitely going to far this time. Their actions really reflect the disaster and chaos that happens when one has too much power.

Contrary to popular belief, Nic’s last comments (look at the June 23 news) was not an apology to TVB. Nic says that he will continue to stand up for his beliefs! Right on!

We see it everywhere else in the world. People standing up for their rights, people standing up to oppressive powers. Why is it that when it comes to the media industry in Hong Kong, the risk of losing one’s career is more important than loss of privacy and invasion of human rights? It makes it very hard for one to do what one loves and try to be successful when one must continually bow to the "media god." I think that Nic has shown incredible strength of character to do what everyone else just complained about and to stick to his beliefs.

However, there are always people who think otherwise. Take JSG, for example, who has said that since Nic hates to go on shows so much, they will not force him to go on theirs. They are totally missing the point here and I think that their statement has less to do with their feelings towards Nic (whether they like him, think he’s a good artist...), and more to do with the fact that JSG wants to make it clear to everyone and TVB especially that they also will not support Nic. By doing this, JSG can be sure that they are not endangering themselves and are still TVB’s "friend." Which proves the point that: in times of trouble, most people flee.

Despite all this chaos, Nic is still continuing with his work and will soon be shooting a commercial for Hutchinson Telecom, showing that Nic’s popularity has not waned over the course of these events. Also, Ekin was supposed to have his concert some time in November, but then he changed it to some time in October or December. Although, Ekin did not explain the reason for this change, many people say that it is because Nic is having his concert in November, and that Ekin might not be able to compete against Nic.

What do you think will be the outcome of this event? do you think that TVB will back down or do you think that Nic will back down?
