A ship carrying Chinese immigrants came to the dock located in California during the night. It let it's passengers off, men, women, children of all ages left the ship and watched it drift back into the night. In the distance, cop cars were speeding twords them, ready to send them back. People ran in different directions. One girl in particualr ran twords the city-Los Angeles. Her Chinese slippers were becoming wet and heavy to run in, so she took them off and ran without them. She reached China Town before the sun rose, and felt tired and heavy. She passed out infront of a beautifully detailed door... Q-chan flew outside to greet the morning. He felt alive and full of energy. He looked around and around, to see if anything had changed. His small black eyes got a hold of a red and blue chinese shirt, and then, a small body. He flew back inside and dragged D outside to examine the girl. D checked her pulse-it was still going. He lifted her up, and took her inside. D laid the girl on his couch, and checked her for any damage. Only on her feet. He noticed her small hands were grasped to her slippers, which were now dry. he went back into a room, and came out with a first-aid kit. He bandaged the girls feet, then then rememberd. He had come to America in a ship, wearing his Chinese clothing, like hers. He relized then she might be an illigal immigrant, and quickley took her back to his room just incase Leon came in un-expected. "Q-chan! Make sure Leon does not come back here!" D orderd the little bat. He went into his bedroom and laid the girl there. As soon as he put her down, her small eyes flutterd open. He said something in Chinese, and she replied back. "Min Poh..." she replied. It was her name. "Min Poh..." D repeated. He smiled at her and told her to rest, that she was safe with him. She nodded and smiled back, and fell asleep. D saw Q-chan come flying into the room, with Leon behind him. He held up a news article about another murder linking the petshop. "D-" but Leon was cut short by D's hand over his mouth, as D held one finger to his lips, and pushed him out and closed the door. "D what do you have in there?" Leon said looking through the cracks in the door. "Nothing. Please detective, come this way." D led him out into the main room, and sat him down. Leon was now more interested in what he was hiding, instead of the newest murder case. No matter what he tried, D was always let off the hook. He kept asking about what D was trying to hide, but D never answerd directly. From the corner of his eye, he saw Min Poh standing in the doorway, hiding behind a curtain, but peeking out every so often. D's eyes went wide with fear the Leon might see her. leon noticed this sudden spur, and before D could stop him, already had Min Poh in full view. "So this is what your hiding D! I never knew you had a daughter!" Leon smiled at Min Poh, and D felt releaved for once. "Actually, Leon, she is not my daughter. She is a friend's daughter." D said patting Min Poh's head. "Whats her name?" "...Min Poh." He replied. The liitle girl smiled at Leon. "You know D....a ship came over last night with alot of Chinese Immigrants wearing these kinds of patterns on thier clothing...They say alot got away." If D wasnt so pale already, Leon would have noticed how white D's face could get. Leon smiled at the little girl, and D, and left the shop. D knew that Leon was onto him...if he wasnt being stupid. ~end of part 1~ |
