Netherlands ready to be gateway for Ambon's fish exports to
Europe
Ambon (ANTARA News) - The Dutch government and private companies are prepared
to make the country a gateway for fish exports from the eastern Indonesian city of
Ambon to Europe, Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Nicolaos van Dam said here on
Wednesday.
In his courtesy call to Ambon Mayor Jopie Papilaja on Wednesday, the Dutch
ambassador assured that his country could be a gateway for fish exports from
Ambon.
The move, according to Nicolaos van Dam, is to follow up the result of a survey made
by a Dutch team in Ambon recently.
"A number of Dutch businessmen who joined the team said the fish from Ambon is
good for export to Europe through The Netherlands," he said.
He noted further that it was necessary for at least three fishermen from Ambon to
undergo a training course on fish packing in The Netherlands.
"Certainly the Pattimura International airport here will be used for the export activities
and that the private companies in The Netherlands are expected to open direct flight
from Ambon to Amsterdam," he said.
Meanwhile, Papilaja admitted that the visit by the Dutch ambassador was in the
framework of strengthening the relations between Ambon and Vlisingen as sister
cities. (*)
