Army ready to set up permanent posts in S Maluku
Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Army Chief of Staff Gen. Djoko Santoso said on
Tuesday the Army (TNI AD) will set up a number of permanent posts in southern
Maluku bordering Timor Leste this year.
"We will set up at least three to five permanent posts there. Actually, we already have
one post there but it is not a permanent one," he said after attending a function
marking the transfer of post of Pattimura regional military command chief from Maj.
Gen. Syarifuddin Summah to Brig. Gen. Sudarmaidy S.
Santoso said Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu himself had visited outlying
islands in southern Maluku some time ago.
"So, the establishment of the permanent posts now depends on coordination with the
Maluku provincial government and public support to make the TNI AD solid in the
performance of its task of keeping the Unitary Republic of Indonesia intact," he said.
The TNI AD was also ready to set up permanent posts on outlying islands in East
Nusa Tenggara and Papua provinces, he said.
"We will synergize security approaches and economic activities so the people living
on the outlying islands will not feel isolated but have a strong sense of love for the
Unitary Republic of Indonesia," he said. (*)
