Moderate quake rocks Sulawesi island
JAKARTA (AP): A moderate earthquake shook Sulawesi island Sunday, the
Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. There were no immediate reports of
casualties or damage.
The magnitude 5.1 quake rattled the northern tip of Sulawesi island at 7:01 a.m. local
time (6:01 a.m. Jakarta time), said Yusuf, an official with the agency.
The epicenter was located in the Maluku sea about 160 kilometers northeast of the
North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado, he said.
On Saturday, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was felt in Central Sulawesi provincial
capital of Palu and the town of Poso.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, sits atop a volcanically active region in the
Pacific known as the Ring of Fire. (***)
