Terrorist suspect sent back to S'pore
JAKARTA: Terror suspect and Singaporean national Mohammad Rosyid, alias
Hamdan, arrested in the country on Tuesday, will be deported to the city state next
week, the National Police say.
"(Hamdan) will be deported to Singapore because the crime (he is wanted for) was
committed there," National Police chief Sutanto said Friday. He did not say what
crime Hamdan was accused of.
Police believe Hamdan may have been a regional leader of Jamaah Islamiyah and
have had a close relationship with JI leader and Southeast Asia's most-wanted
terrorist Noordin M. Top.
Sutanto said Interpol had tipped off Indonesian police about the Hamdan's
whereabouts. He was arrested in West Nusa Tenggara by members of the police's
counterterrorism squad.
Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam told The Jakarta Post that under
the 2002 regulations on terrorism, investigators could question suspects for up to a
week on the basis of preliminary evidence.
Members of JI are wanted for a string of major attacks in the country.(04)
