Well, I didn't need the Diablo manual...I finished the game late on the 27th...I'll prolly go back at some point just to try sorceror and rogue character types, but, even though the game's 4 yrs. old, I'd have been kinda pissed if I could finish a game in 36 hours (including sleeping and other normal life stuff), even back in 1999...hell, it takes me that long just to get bored with a new batch of chars. on the original Wizardry game (Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord...about as old school as you can get and still have graphics), and it dates back to 1981 or there-abouts...If that D2 patch doesn't get released soon, I'm going back to play it again...now that I have a website, I'll post my own maps...I've seen and used a few, but I can't remember where they are, and, since the series is presumed dead, those sites might not even exist...of course if that D2 patch arrives sooner rather than later, I'll be lucky if I even remember that I have this site (or that I need to eat and sleep at least once a week), let alone add to it...
Also on my "to do" list is to try and learn Linux...I just finished cleaning the misc junk off my 2nd harddrive, so I'm ready to go...that's my cue to rant about the evils of Microsoft, and Windows in particular, but I got stuff to do, so it'll have to wait...
Random nuisances this week...I used to run a lot...10km (6.2 miles) 3 times a week...just for the joy of running...right now i'm just getting back into shape for the first time in years so i'm running 5km...when i'm in shape, 20 mins (for 5km) is an easy jog, and 18 mins is a decent workout...right now, 25 mins is a stretch...2 Thursdays ago, I ran 25:07 and felt great, because i thought it would take a few more weeks just to achieve that threshold...so last thursday, i run again, and i'm easily ahead of that pace, but i'm having trouble finishing because the humidity's killing me (which isn't an issue when i'm in shape), so I ease up a bit, but i keep overheating...by the time I finish, I feel like hell and i've finished at 25:04...I've just spent a half hour torturing myself so I can knock a measly 3 seconds off of my time, when I should have been able to reach 23-24 mins...and believe me, I'm paying the price today just for burning off those 3 seconds...
I'm a big Diablo II fan, but even though I've got a level 76 character up to Act IV on Hell level (if you don't know the game, that's nearly as far as you can go on the game's toughest setting) but many other fans would still rank me as a newbie because i don't bother to worry about finesse or boning up on the most esoteric details of armour and weapon types, etc. I prefer the "point me in the right direction and let me at 'em" hack-and-slash method of playing...nonetheless, I'm dying for the newest (and final) revision to come out, so there's no point playing until then...so I try out the original Diablo game for the first time. My cousin gave it to me, but he'd long since lost the manual...no big deal, it's a fun, easier version of D2...so my new character is sailing along, until he finally gets in over his head and is killed...no biggie; I just go back to the menu and pick up where I left off, (with maybe a small penalty to resurrect my character) right? RIGHT?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE GAME DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY SAVE MY CHARACTER'S PROGRESS!!!!!!! *Damn* Back to square one...anyone know where I can find an online copy of the manual so I can avoid any other unpleasant surprises?
Ok, I'm obviously going to need a little more discipline in getting this blog out...just in case anyone ever follows it...So I took a quiz in which I scored a 69% on the Evil Genius Scale, and the button has a picture of Al Gore...so if I earned a sub-zero score, I'd get a "Dubya" button, right? Tell me which is scarier: that Emperor George II can invade third-world countries, trading soldiers for oil (and reconstruction contracts for his cronies), will of the People be damned, or that the majority of Americans might not have a problem with his foreign policy because ends justify the means if it's for God And Country? (or just don't care, unless it pre-empts "American Idol")
If you and your 4 y/o are outside in the sweltering heat, would you rather be a) told that it's hot out, as if you needed to be informed, or b) asked if it's hot out, as if she were in a meat locker instead of dripping with sweat?
Wow! I just checked my site stats and I got my first visitor last night!!! Woohoo!!! only 5 999 999 999 more ppl to conquer!
Umm...I think I had a visitor...someone using different version of IE and with less colour capability...but all the known page referrals (hmm...note to self: create a glossary page for ppl that don't understand all the terms cuz they've got lives...) are from me tweaking my page...generally speaking, anyone who would have visited my site w/o leaving a page referral would also have the latest browser version and greatest colour capabilities...did I somehow "dumb-down" my computer while checking my site? If so, I was (and still am) talking to myself...(Hello, Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home) Which isn't really anything out of the ordinary for me...
Ok, so I won't always have a quote, or even a headline...I don't have anything in particular to say at the moment, except that I actually have a vague idea of how this will all look when it reaches some kinda critical mass (i.e the index page becomes so large that most browsers crash), but until then, i'm just throwing everything up here in a chaotic mess. Believe me, if I've got something to say, you won't be able to shut me up...I think next time (tomorrow?) I'll start a page just to keep track of changes (other than actual log entries like this) made to the site...most ppl wouldn't care that it took me like 90 mins just to figure out how to change yesterday's quote to red text so that you can tell actual quotes from regular headlines...but if anyone reads this in the future (or actually *gasp* checks this site on a regular basis), they can read the tale of how this site rose from humble, mediocre beginnings, to being a fully-functioning, awe-inspiring manifesto for world domination...in the meantime, since music will definitely be a recurring theme here, i thought I'd post my complete .mp3 collection so you can all lay awake at night trying to comprehend a world that includes someone who is a fan of both Gordon Lightfoot *and* Marilyn Manson...
So here we are, my first official entry on my website, just so there's actually something to read instead of just an "outerspace" background...eventually there will be stuff to read...whether it'll ever be stuff worth reading is quite another matter...
Today's header is a musical quote, but I won't name the artist or song, nor will all headers be musical...on the off chance that anyone ever follows this website, I'll be curious to see how many ppl can identify them all...the quote is from the first song that was playing while i figured out how to code this entry, but it also happens to capture a) my attitude of inflicting myself upon the world starting with -and mainly by use of- the internet, with the ultimate goal of world domination and "easy" groupies, and b) my obsession with musical trivia and near-complete inability to function w/o music playing
