Editorial: "YEE HAW Y'ALL!"
I thought my ride through our Southeastern states would be uneventful. Even hoped it would be. But, from its very onset I was met with a barrage of messages of hope and offers of support to our disaster victims and our upcoming responses.
American flags at half mast at all businesses. Companies and hundreds of homes without flagpoles proudly dispalying our colors any way they were able. Six foot tall and larger flags all but covering walls, often over their own advertisements. Banners of all sizes, down to the tiny 'dime store' variety, also on thousands of cars. Even photocopied paper ones on smaller businesses and homes.
Highways filled with signs, entire billboards, paying homage to the victims and offering support by donating portions of their profits to disaster relief. Posts where you'd normally see daily specials reading "Our Red Cross needs blood. Go two blocks then turn right."
Then through the rural areas handwritten signs, the ones proclaming yard sales or the local lawn mower repairman, now showing support with the traditional mispellings, misalignments and other southern charms that are truly unique to our little corner of these great United States.
The promise of an uneventful ride and a chance to get away from this tragedy a brief time became an education in how we are coming together, each in our own ways, to express our support of the victims and our resolve to see the perpetrators pay! My heart was lifted by the sense of unity, brought to near tears by some of the messages, but most of all filled with pride for being not only a citizen of these great United States but also for being born a Southerner!
I'd happily hear and see posted at our Tavern anything that you see around the country as these but I must say I again feel a strong patriotism, for America and, for all its tainted history, what once was known as the Confederation. As they say 'round hea' I'm "American by choice, Southern by the grace of God!"
Our deepest thanks go out to the efforts of so many Union members pulling together to see our 'nation' is also coping, helping and even growing! Those who have silently please know we appreciate all you've done as well!
And grow we have! The time for mourning will never be over but it must make way for a resolve to carry on...and we have so begun in our normal grand fashion!
While site developments have been minimal (hey, I've been getting ready for my vacation!) we have proudly added several links to our many 'entrances'. All roads to Union are now marked by links to helping.org, an easy reference site to everything you need for assistance, either in giving or receiving, for the terrorist attacks. These are all bona fide organizations where you may be assured whatever you donate, money, time or blood, gets were it is needed.
Lady Lance has become the leader of her own realm in our Union! Rokvor is a rotational simulation, now in Union West, where you may visit many realities via 'gates' (and, yes, this was created before her joining Union!)! She allows near any race or class, even gods, for PC's (!!!) and the play at her associated clubs is both engrossing and, though still with a small membership, VERY active!
Also the Tavern 'Upstairs' now has three new galleries. One is the new home of the few pictures sent in by Union members in IC or near costumes. This is sure to grow as I have been promised many more and will add several of my own as soon as we have another digital camera!
The others house what will be the first official Union LARPG costumes avaliable from our sponsor BuyCostumes as well as some general LARP clothing. Everything from casual to formal wear to even battle gear is there...see the Sponsor Spotlight for the link...and just in time for Halloween!
I wondered how I'd go about this but my trip this week has made the introduction all the easier. Wanna great MMRPG where you can see (and be!) firsthand what terrorist might expect should they ever find themselves in the sunny South?
Redneck Rampage is a hilarious romp through rural Arkansas, except you take your barefoot walk through with a crowbar, pistol, buzzsaw and various other weapons of destruction!
While there are no maniacal terrorists there to kill (AWWW!!!) the game premise is unique: all the folks in this little hicksville town have been captured by aliens and cloned into hundreds of evil human hating scum who's 'gonna getcha, boy'! (So that's why ye have ta keep killin' tha' same idgits over and over! OOOH WHEEE!)
Rated mature for language (hot dern! and to think there's an additional cuss-pack!), gore (exploding clone, pig and chicken bodies) and 'adult' behavior, such as cussin', shootin' chickens and gettin' DRUNK!
As many southerners are, (and, lets face it, these folks may be found the world over) your PC is a lush who 'powers up' with pork rinds and cheap beer. Watch the balance because, while its easier to find the booze, drink too much for yer hit points and you become a staggering fool, going sideways when you want to go forward and losing the ability to shoot straight! (I have heard this is VERY realistic, having no first hand knowledge of such states myself...yeah, right!)
Another 'tactical' game, consider this a precursor to more involved 'special operations' sims. The potential for co-op assault is amazing and will give you a very real idea of what one might expect in an 'Invasion USA' southern syle. (This would NOT be a good time to walk into any southern bar, or church for that matter, proclaiming you are of the Islamic Jihad!)

My little corner of America...my heart swells with pride and my spirit holds ever closer the charm and vitality of my IRL homeland. And to think I considered postponing my vacation and missing all this!
All the flags, signs, words of sympathy and support. So many stood out, leaving impressions on my mind and resolutions of my spirit that will remain with me forever.
Still, if I could choose only one which made the deepest impression of them all I'd have to say it was one which appeared on the signboard of a small, country church...
"God Bless America and Shew Mercy on the Souls of Our Enemies."
That may be taken many ways.

Knightly Knews
Lord Montahon, Union High Council and the Elite Order of Union Knights hereby bestow the rank of Sargeant upon Lady Lance for her unswerving loyalty and service to Union in her thus far brief but glorious membership to the Knighthood. Diablo Becomes Weekly Outing Site
Due to the current lack of participation in Alhanzar, Monty will now be leading groups in Diablo (link to site and free playable download above).
Alhanzar will be considered for later participation because of its many benefits as a training ground for those new to MMRPG. Its low price, lack of PK abilities and opportunity to purchase a Union Keep in the realm still make it one of the best options available in these arenas.
Several options exist for Diablo multiplay (up to six per room). Monty will at first use public forums as a means of recruiting and learning the on-line game himself. Private rooms are also available for extensive training of interested newcomers.
Be it known PKing is possible in Diablo. Knights are encouraged to participate for the protection of Union members as well as the above reasons.
Note in the classifieds Monty has added advertisements for WarLords in both Alhanzar and Diablo.
Mages and Mysteries FFRPG
UPDATE: Deadline for the contest is now 9/30/01, after which I will 'feed' the answers to a participating NoU BB/FFRPG player!
Everyone has noticed the strange Mage who refers to himself as Mayhem lurking
about Union's gate. Who is this man? Why is he here? Herein lies a mystery
for all who wish to search for clues to who this man truly is and what omens
his appearance brings Union. Your only hint: The answers are in Union,
somewhere! Meet in the Tavern (OOC) and Keep (IC) to discuss your findings. An IRL prize will be awarded the member(s) who might solve this enigma!

Lord/Lady of Law (LL): Union Council post in desperate need of filling!
This position currently requires less than three hours work per week and
entails:
Warlord/Lord of Alhanzar: Command Council position available to Knights or members interested in building and administrating the Union Keep
of the Mystic Realms of Alhanzar and overseeing the recruitment and training of incoming members there. Other requirements include:
* A minimum level one membership to Alhanzar
Warlord/Lord of Diablo: Command Council position available to Knights or members interested in and administrating Union activities
in Diablo and overseeing the recruitment and training of incoming members there. Other requirements include:
* Ownership of the original Diablo CD. (May be provided to the right candidate.)
High Priest/Priestess: This Post requires assisting Monty in the rebuilding
of the Palace Temple and overseeing the recruitment and training of incoming
priests. Some ceremonial duties may include conducting marriages and
christenings. Applicant should have a working knowledge of Union history and culture, be of sound moral character and tolerant of the beliefs of others.
Union Knights: Always 'hiring'! please read the Knights' Handbook at the Library and
now in the Knights' Keep ('runes' above). If ye have the metal and courage
to join us, please do! No duties required but rank may be gained swiftly
for: Tavern Hosts, FFRPG Proctors, Game Masters and Recruiters,to name a

Hey, I'm on vacation, haven't been able to check the downloads themselves and would love any comments from any who do beyond what I've said already!
Blizzard doesn't say if the Diablo Demo is net playable but, at 50 MB, should be a great introduction to the game! The full registered game is now available for $10 at J&R Music and Electronics in our Sponsors & Shoppes and possibly your local software outlet!
Interplay's Redneck Rampage Demo, at under 12 MB probably isn't net playable but will let you see if you want to spring the $5 to buy a copy!
