One of the things I most enjoy about this recipe is the fact that the apples don't have to be peeled. Of course, no one complains about a home filled for hours with the aroma of cooked apples...or the resulting fare!

Best Apple Butter
12 large cooking apples, cored and chopped--do not peelCombine chopped apples with apple juice or cider in crockpot or slow cooker; stir in sugar. Cover and cook on low for about 10 hours, stirring occasionally. When apples are entirely soft, put them into a blender or food processor; blend on high speed until smooth. (You'll have to do this in portions smaller than the whole contents of the crockpot.) Return the pureed apples to the crockpot. Add spices and cook on low another hour or until mixture reaches the desired consistency. For thicker apple butter, remove the lid after adding spices.
2 cups apple juice or apple cider
3 cups sugar
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon ½ teaspoon ground clovesApple butter keeps well in the refrigerator. I always freeze some.
