This recipe I've taken (and slightly amended) from what I refer to as "my airplane cookbook".  It's actually the "International Experimental Aircraft Association Cook Book"--an organization cookbook my mother bought for me at a fly-in several years ago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  The recipe was submitted by Mrs. John Dallmeyer of Antigo, Wisconsin, and she called it "Sunrise Tavern Famous Chocolate Pie".

        French Silk Pie

        1½ sticks butter
3 squares unsweetened chocolate (melted and cooled)
        3 eggs
        1 baked pie shell
        1¼ cup powdered sugar
        ½ teaspoon vanilla
        (garnish)

        • Beat butter with electric mixer 2 minutes
        • Add powdered sugar and beat another 2 minutes
        • Add melted chocolate and beat 3 minutes
        • Add eggs, one-at-a-time, and beat 2 minutes after each addition
        • Blend in vanilla then pour into pie shell
        • Garnish with sweetened whipped cream and chocolate shavings
