I was introduced to hamburger soup by my husband's mom.  We always love the flavor of this soup, and it's economical to prepare.  There's no recipe, per se, for it's almost a concept rather than a precise concoction.  It goes something like this:

        Hamburger Soup

Fry and drain a couple of pounds of ground beef; place in a large pot or Dutch oven.  Add about 6-8 cups of water and 6-10 beef bullion cubes.  Add tomato sauce (8-16 ozs), onion powder (or chopped onions), and seasoned salt.

Choose any combination of the following to add to your soup:

        noodles
        cubed potatoes
        corn cabbage
        lima beans
        green beans
        mushrooms
(any leftover vegetables from a previous meal)
        additional spices of your choice

Of course, add vegetables according to the time required to cook them.  For example, put potatoes in early in the cooking, corn or noodles nearer the end.  One pot of hamburger soup will feed our family of 6 at least two meals.  This soup freezes well, so you can double the "recipe" and make enough to store.
