We were driving on a country road--the whole family.  We had recently moved to Michigan and had never traversed this blacktop before.

I saw it.  I saw it, and I'm glad I did, because I otherwise would not have believed it.

"Whoa!" shouted my husband.  "Did you see that!?"

The responses ranged from, "Yes, I did!" to "What?  What're you talking about?"

He explained, "The bathtub in that yard.  It was a shrine to Mary!"

Indeed, I had seen it.  It was similar to an old clawfoot tub.  It had been turned on end, with about a third of the tub buried in the ground and the rest sticking up with the opening facing the road.  My husband explained this to the kids.

Someone asked, "Well what makes you think a bathtub in someone's yard was a shrine to Mary?"

"Because she was in it!"

This sent gales of laughter throughout the van, but truer words have never been spoken.  Standing dead-center in that upturned bathtub was a statue of Mary...all cozied-in as if she belonged there.

This was one idol which we won't soon forget...Mary in the bathtub!
